It may need cooling .. but if cooling was so important that they had to do that to it, they could change the shape of the car slightly to allow a better flow instead of covering the front in grille.
Coventry has hit the nail on the head :D

Dude don´t take this the rong way but... Porshe IS part of a major german car brand... the SIVA group - Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Porshe, and probably more... :(
And the four wheel drive 911s... could have some parts or development from the Quattro system...

dr. ing. ferdianand porsche was the design head for volkeswagen, and they sort of were never really in business together (porsche & vw) but dr, porsche came up with zillions of part and body designs, alot of which he gave to vw, then audi and vw were in business together, and thats why tehre are audi and vw cars/parts that are similar, with in all categories, the audi parts being superiour in performance and quality :D just had to slip that in tehre! hehe

A quattro system on a 911 lends itself , at least, some semblance of practicality and enhancement to the original design. That is if you want all that extra traction. The Cayenne and its ilk offer compromised handling over a dedicated sports car and uselessness as a four wheel drive wagon. Its ironic that they build something like this in the mould of an SUV and find it impossible not to immediately make it back into a sports car. Buy the frikin 911.

All u people who thinks that porsche made a mistake by creating the cayenne... u think ur better than a bunch of designers and engineers and a those people who were involved in the process of designing that car? i dont think so. Of course porsche is not going to keep making two seaters... there are people out there with big family who want to drive in style. Why not the cayenne?
and this GT 600 car... what's wrong with a little change for a while? the designres are getting paid to actually DESIGN cars... and that means designing a whole different looks... not the same look porshe has had for the last god knows how many years!

huh? that's just a really dumb reason... of course people have different taste in style... you're just one of those people who only wants to criticise but dont have a better reply than saying that cayenne has no style. i've seen the car in real life and i think it looks pretty good. what more do u want from a family car? it's big , it's spacious, it meets its purpose... and the style is design by a professional designer who i believe knows more about design than most of us do...
Lagonda
12-14-2004, 05:19 AM
How can you judge my knowledge of design ? You can't.
You say thay I can't critiscise because I only say that it has no style. Well hello ! That right there is the point, it has no style, I have nothing else to critiscise. I don't doubt the car has qualities and is a good car technically. I drove one 1 week after the release, it was quite a good ride. If you wan't a technical point of criticism: the V8 models use waaaaay too much petrol, an insane amount. Something Porsche should really work on. But that car just has no style, that's it. It screams styleless bling.
I see those things 5 times a day where I live, and they are ugly and have the same clientèle as the BMW 3-series Coupé and Cabrio over here. Blond women in their 30ies married to a rich man and doing nothing but shopping all day long.
Some call me a snob but I hate the kind of people that live in my neighbourhood.
Oh, and I would hardly call it a "family car".
No hard feelings. Sorry if I sound agressive or anything but I'm having a bad day :)

I dont think Porsche made a mistake. They made a business decision. THey compromised their integrity and credibility (but thats not worth much in dollars) to join the ever growing list of "we make an SUV too" manufacturers. It is useless as an SUV and severly compromised as a sports car. As I said I think it looks tough. I am just jaded by the cynical approach manufacturers have taken to this particular band wagon.

you dont seem to understand what i was trying to say.
i was trying to say that i would rather have porsche make an uglier car, and still have nice sports cars on side than for the whole brand to become a branch of some other big corporation.
when i used the audi and quattro example it was only in a matter of speach. i was not erally thinking of how it would work out. i might as well have said that i would not like to see a 911 with a amg tuned engine. capice?

No. Why wold Porsche neccessarily become part of a big corporation by not building the Cayenne. They were not in financial trouble and the Cayenne would not be their best seller. By their own admission they stated the logic behind it was (or part of it) many Porsche owners also had an SUV in their garage (a somewhat backhanded swipe) so it may as well be a Porsche.

they were in financial trouble when the boxter came out, and they hadnt really come away from it fully, and yeah they made the cayenne because alot of porsche owners also had suv's, but why not? and the cayenne is EVERYWHERE easily a bestseller, everywehre i look theres a ceyenne, so how can it not be a best seller?

I'll take your word for it. Im not there. Only seen a few in Oz. Is it Porsches top selling car? I imagine it was pretty much made for the US market. I appreciate why Porsche made it. $$. Thats business. I still maintain it serves no purpose but that is not the reason cars like that are bought.

They were very much in financial trouble before the Cayenne. In fact, shortly after the Cayenne went into production Porsche shut down production of the 911 and the Boxster for a period of time because they could not afford to produce all three models at the same time. After a quick bit of cash came in from sales of the Cayenne, they were able to restart production of their more traditional models. Basically, the Cayenne saved Porsche from becoming just another name plate on the wall of a big corporation. And it has also given the company the much-needed development money for the 997 and the new Boxster.
