The January 2005 issue of Australian Wheels magazine has four comparison tests in it where they try to decide whether Japan or Europe makes the best cars in four different catagories.

The comparisons were Nissan 350Z v Alfa GT (already done on UCP), Honda Accord Euro vs Audi A4 2.0 FWD, Mazda3 SP23 v VW Golf 2.0 FSi and the most controversal one, the Subaru Legacy 3.0R v BMW 330i Executive.

I won't reveal the Wheels result yet - some of the Aussies may have read it. But I thought it would be an interesting exercise to run the same comparisons on UCP.

Does Europe make better cars than Japan, or vice versa.

Honda Accord Euro v Audi A4 2.0 FWD is first up. Similar size in terms of dimensions. Both FWD. In the comparison, the auto versions were tested.

Honda has a 2.4 litre 4 clyinder engine, 140kW@6800 rpm, 5-speed auto. Price A$42,800 (21,513 pounds for the equivilant model in the UK).

Audi has a 2.0 litre 4 clyinder, 96KW@5700 rpm, CVT auto. Price A$51,550 (about 19,300 pounds in the UK).

So, which is better? The Japanese Honda or the German Audi? Remember, its the FWD Audi, not the quattro.

In the UK the two cars compete directly, which makes it closer.
In Australia there is a price gap.

The Accord for me: Cheaper and more powerful, stylings not a issue for me in this one cause they both look good. If it was the Accord V6 on the other hand though....

JIC I want to say that the Euro Accord is what Americans know as the Acura TSX.

I personally like both cars, tough choice I guess.
