Strangely I recall some British supermarket not being allowed to call some ham "parma ham" because, despite being made in the correct place and way, it was not sliced in Italy.

However cheese from Canada can be called "Cheddar"?

When will the EU's reign of terror end?

Wrong way round, CS, the REAL quesiton is when will ALL food producers adhere to a standard which means that a product that is known for it's origin can ONLY by supplied from that origin.

German Cars for beauty, handling, refinement and comfort.

American Cars for speed, simplicity, large size, raw horsepower.

The Cadillac STS was laughable.
:)

Please tell me, what was wrong with the STS?

(I'm asking because I'm considering buying a 1994 Seville STS, because I want a spacious, luxurious, inexpensive used car. I'd be buying it cheap, but if it's truley "laughable," what should I get instead?)

Why do you want a STS? V8? FWD? How luxurious/inexpensive do you need?

well, I have very little to spend...the STS I'm looking at is in the $2,000 range. do you have another suggestion in the $1 - $2000 range? haha that's what's laughable...my budget...

I think you can probably get a more reliable car for about $2K. The STS was introduced as Cadillac's sport/luxury car that originally cost a lot of money (~40K) and now someone is selling it for less than $2,000. That in itself raises some red flags for me. I remember reading in Consumer Reports that the older STS were far below average in many categories including reliability. You might get it cheap but it won't stay that way. I know that it's an attractive car, probably nicer than anything you'll find for the price. But if it seems too good to be true it usually is....

Best bet is a Japanese sedan that's being sold by the original owner. They should be selling it themselves because they don't want the dealer's offer of $500. If you need something bigger or GM, then go for any car with the 3800 V6 engine. The Pontiac Bonneville, Buick Regal, and Oldsmobile 88 all had this engine and they are likely to be in better condition than a similarly priced Cadillac.

Regardless of what you buy, have it checked out by a mechanic. It'll cost about an hour worth of labor and you can bargain atleast the price of the inspection, probably more. Good Luck!!

EDIT: Check out this 1995 Olds 88 on autotrader (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=188502909&dealer_id=56840924&car_year=1995&model=88&bkms=1137224805604&lang=en&isp=y&start_year=1994&certified=&search_type=both&distance=50&make=OLDS&min_price=&address=92656&advanced=&end_year=1998&max_price=&cardist=0)

i think that germans are the best in manufacturing luxury cars simply because of its quality which is better than cadillac and jaguar .
In my country lebanon people do not buy used cars other than german cars.

I would have until a month ago.

My Auntie is buying a Mercedes Benz model to come...

And every week they go to pick it up they find another problem with it,
It's done i think she said 2 moduals were faulty, Now it has paint chips, So off they go again tomorrow to pick up the car and they will be thinking what else could go wrong..
Hopefully she will bring it around tomorrow so i can snap some picks and get the model it is, All i know is it's a A-Class.

That's because it's a Mercedes. And we all know that chinese cars are built better than a Benz. :D

All I can say is that in 3 years and 71,000km the Mini has been faultless.

Slick if its a '99 or 2000 model then do your Auntie a seriously big favour and advise her to bail out. Those early models of the A-class are a real nightmare :(

My dad has a '99 bimmer 528i, and its been through around 90,000 miles, and it still rides amazingly. I can't think of any serious problems that have happened besides typical aging (wearing out of brakes, tires, idle a little low), and any problems have been serviced right away by BMW.
I'd rather go German.

Thats what i thought:p...

She got it yesterday but she didn't bring it last night, She is complaining her cheap husband got a manual:( and it's so touchy everything is electric she is very confused right now.. Hopefully next week she will bring it, But she usually parks out the front on the nature strip, But she isn't allowed to with this car so it's got to come in the drive way, And if you don't know our driveway ask some of the boys that have been here it's a mini S it's a prick to get in and out of:p, So i get to drive it:D.

But apparently it had chips galore in the paint and they had to go back and fix it, I'm thinking how did this happen and get passed the final checks? Maybe in shipping?.

I think German cars are better. Americans offer better bang for you buck, but I think German cars just have the power to burn. Such as an M5 taking on a
Z06. Yeah, the Corvette would probably win, but the M5 is more likely more street worthy. It's more comfortable to live with. Maybe Australian cars can join the list becausesome Yanks are actually Aussie cars such as the G8 and the GTO Coupe. Add in the upcoming G6 that may be coming and you got some pretty good cars there.

In America you could probably make an arguement for American cars, but on the world stage, German cars win hands down in every instance.

No. Audis are useless everywhere.
