View Full Version : Mom's New Car

CHEESE-TACULAR

now that my dad has replaced his Maxima, my mom needs a car to replace her RL. no one besides me is that concerned with preformance. the important things are the ride (she has a bad back), the styling (catchy without saying "look at me"), and the quality.

there is a poll, but please post the reason(s) for why you voted :)

New Volkswagen Passat maybe? They look very nice. Dare I say even one of the new-age Cadillacs? Just to get the patrioism going again :D

If shes really got a bad back i would reccomend the M45 in this case, as unloading/loading, getting the car etc is alot easier with everything more upright. I would imagine it would be one of the relatively safer SUV's on the market as well.

M45 is just a tarted up version of what we call the Maxima in N.Z. They're nothing to write home about..I sat in one and it felt a bit low quality, centre console quite rattily and lavishings of ugly plastic wood.

How about a Volvo S60? Very safe, very comfortable, quite nice looking.

Spastik_Roach
04-27-2005, 05:08 AM
Cross that out, i've just realised its not the N.Z Maxima. I havn't seen the new M45, if I ever saw it in N.Z it'd be badged as a Nissan Fuga, the M45's JDM name. It looks promising. Take it for a test drive and see.

Which is very old, and soon to be replaced... though by something that would be worth waiting for I'm sure.

S80 should be replaced very soon. I am familiar with the development and can assure you that the design is in very good hands.
The model is already in extreme condition testing so shouldn't be more than 18months away.... Possibly sooner? :)...anyway sometime in 2006.

I would've said S80 but its a bit old and flawed. S60 is still modern and classy, and very comfortable. S60R goes like a bat out of hell but the tyres are too low profile=bit of harsh ride. The V70R (Station Wagon) apparently doesn't have the problem with excessively low profile tyres so theres some food for thought..

Yeah S60 still has a couple of years before its replaced, but is like the S80 in its twighlight years... also in reality its an Audi A4 rival and not quite as accomodating as the cars mentioned in this Poll.

You might consider getting a Citroen C5/C6.they both have the latest version of Citroen's famous Hydropneumatic 3 suspension. You never feel any bumps on the road, it is like you are flying 50 cm above the road :) You can also adapt the height of the car, so that you can load stuff (in the back) more easily.if these are available in the USA , i'd really consider having a look (specially at the diesel versions)... Good luck on your search ;)

Not sure where you're getting at with Nissan/Infiniti being French besides the fact that they own, can not remember, Citroen and Renault? America misses out on a lot of good European cars.

Nissan is majority owned by Renault.... therefore Infinity aswell.
A few years ago Renault appointed there own Chairman to sort out the top heavy management. And its thanks to Carlos Gohsn that Nissan/ Infinity have been so successful as of late.
Gohsn will now return to Renault to sort out that company and maybe to prepare for a return to the US market?

to answer all questions, the E-Class is too pricey compared to the RL and M plus the latter two have much cooler options-i checked C&D mag and it did a comparison:M45-1st, RL-3rd (i think), A6-5th

and renault owns 44% of nissan so nissan is still and independent company

I say the A6, it's a great dialy driver with the perofrmance when needed. It is a safe vehicle and is reliable. A tad more costly to maintain than say an Acura or another Japanese car of the same class but the great styling and performance are worth it! ;D

Out of these the A6 is by far the best. It has great ride comfort, not to mention the comfort of the interior, plus the V-8 has good power.

Although if you had a BMW 5 Series in the mix I'd choose that.

So that makes it a great car ? No, it doesn't.

IF audis had terrible susbensions and no class what do you call the R8? Allroad? A8? RS-cars? and how is any Group B car boring?
First of all, what you say makes no sense. Secondly, the R8 is not a road car. The A8 is, again boring and yet again has that awefull rockhard suspension. If you don't believe me then read some car mags, EVERY time they test an Audi they mention that the standard suspension is too hard and uncomfortable. And I've driven most of the current Audi's and I completely agree with this. The RS models don't move me, the power they have doesn't compensate the boringness of the car. The Allroad, meh.
What the hell have Group B cars to do with this ?

last, how could your dad call them peasant's cars when the Audi discussed in this thread has a starting price of $52,220?!?
Lack of style. That's why. And I don't think price has anything to do with style.

First off, if i offended you im sorry and i wasnt trying to flame you. i just get a little overworked when someone insults a company car i like/complements one i hate. you just listed a bunch of opinions with no facts to back them up.

a car can technacally never be great. greatness depends solely on opinion...scince most people in this thread/forum at least accept audi as a nice car it can be labled as great IN THIS FORUM. EX. a victim on the holocaust may say Aldof Hitler was the most terrible man ever, a university proffeser may say he was a great man who said terible things---my point is that greatnes cant be proven

honestly, yes all my magizines do credit audi with uncomfortably stiff suspention i a road car but that doesnt mean its aweful

Group B has alot to do with audi, as does the whole rallying scene. Audi introduced 4wd in rallying with their S1. you called audi boring, but how can you call Group B boring?

BUT price does have to do alot with what kind of stuff you can afford? how the hell would a peasant be able to afford an audi worth more than he makes in a year? in few cases a lifetime.

Flame is rather over-reacting description/

You listed a pile of opinions with NO reasons and were asked to justify it.

You have so folsk now know where you're coming from.

THEN we can knwo where we agree/disagree ....

Suspension, I'm a Brit we like suspension that lets us feel the grip on the road. Yep it measn it ain't cadillac smooth and floaty.

Style, Audi have their own unique "look" which is quite reserved. It's like city bankers and their pin stripe suit. Just becuase it's all the same and isn't flashy-look-at-me does NOT make it UNstylish. Ask anyone who owns an Armani suit :)

Boring. For day-to-day use they maybe are a little as they are stable and easily controllable. No bad habits. BUT you take them to the track and open them aup and you may find the tag "boring" a little inappropriate :)

So if a preference is for "in-vogue" style, "comfy" ride and hadnling that needs constant driver awareness then it is a bad car. Something like a Noble is a better fit.

That's why it's an opinion, I don't need to back things up when I like something or not.

When you see a girl walking down the street and your mate says to you wow look at that babe, and you look and say meh, not my style. Do you have to back it up and explain why ? No. It's all about preference. You don't need to justify preference.

honestly, yes all my magizines do credit audi with uncomfortably stiff suspention i a road car but that doesnt mean its aweful Again, IMO Audi's suspensions are horrible. If you like them fine but I don't. That's all.

Group B has alot to do with audi, as does the whole rallying scene. Audi introduced 4wd in rallying with their S1. you called audi boring, but how can you call Group B boring? I'm not denying that Audi never made good cars, especially in racing/rallying. But their merits in racing don't matter too much in this thread. And their racing cars have nothing too do with their road cars at the moment. Having an exciting racecar doesn't make your roadcars exciting.

BUT price does have to do alot with what kind of stuff you can afford? how the hell would a peasant be able to afford an audi worth more than he makes in a year? in few cases a lifetime.
Price has nothing to do with style. Take the Peugeot 406 and 406 coupé both relatively cheap, but they are soo timeless and stylish. I know somebody who is a literally a billionaire and he drives a Peugeot 406 2.0.
With peasant I mean a person with not much sence of style, it has nothing to do with income.

Suspension, I'm a Brit we like suspension that lets us feel the grip on the road. Yep it measn it ain't cadillac smooth and floaty.

I agree, I hate the typical american suspensions but that's something else. The Audi suspension is soo hard that it becomes really uncomfortable that's all. There ARE limits and especially for a daily/family car.

Style, Audi have their own unique "look" which is quite reserved. It's like city bankers and their pin stripe suit. Just becuase it's all the same and isn't flashy-look-at-me does NOT make it UNstylish. Ask anyone who owns an Armani suit

Well, I own an Armani suit and I still don't like Audi's ;). But I understand what you are saying. The car doesn't need to be flashy I only think that Audi lacks a certain edge in style. It's hard to explain, I can't really rationalize feelings you know. As for boring: I meant a boring look, not a boring drive. It's a shame that they don't offer rear wheel drive cars though.

But I must stress that I'm sure that all of these cars, whichever one you choose, will be fine. I just wanted to say that I don't really like the Audi. The single biggest problem with this forum is the utter lack of respect for other people's opinions on certain cars. The fanboy level is really high, and the teenager-who-doesn't-know-what-he-is-talking-about-level. But the rest of the forum makes up for that :)

You know what guys, I find this really funny. We are all car enthusiasts right, for the most part. There maybe some who just don't care but the most of us do. I think we should just get over all this and just move on. Sometimes, reviews from many sources and mediums are just not enough to move someone on the quality and luxury of Audis. Even though every where in the world it is known. So be it. The guy doesn't like Audis but it is kind of a shame that he will not allow himself to be open to a possibly nice and very able car.

Oh vell anyvay. So ist life ja. So muuuch for da english typing eh? :D

By the way, I have heard and also personally think that the Audi Suspension is actually much more comfortable and yet responsive when compared to a BMW. The BMW cars are nice but they do have harder Suspension. One more hint of advice if you designate sports package on an Audi and get the Sport rims, suspension and performance tires it will be hard. Audi redid their sport package and it really is sport this time around. So if it does not suite you then don't opt for it.

One more comment German cars are far SUPERIOR than Japanese or French cars. How? Build quality, elegance, design, and innovation. FYI: just my opinion.

Could be. I just absolutely hate Audi, hopeless cars. Ugly, awefull suspension, boring, no class, really noisy diesels (this goes for all VAG diesels of course).
My dad tends to call them peasant's cars, but I won't go that far :)

Oh and one more thing, don't go for the S80, it's getting outdated and the interior is relatively small.

Grrrrrrrrr  ... trying really hard to resist wasting my time setting this punk straight.

You and you're 'Daddy' just look like you're trying to validate the contents of your family's garage by putting down the cars that you should have bought if you weren't badge victims.
- You have a lot to learn college boy.

Good, lets leave it at that. BTW, quick question for Q-Man... English is your 2nd language right? (I'm just wondering if you're typing from the second language point of view or if you just lack in spelling/typos.)

"My daddy will get an RS6"
"My mommy will get a Merc"
"I will be the CEO of a company and own 1000 restaurants"
"What car should I get? an M3? S4? Remember that it MUST have leather seats... Also remember that I just turned 14, so this thread doesn't make much sense"

"Does GBrown's dad own UCP's most expensive car?" --> MP Replies "Well, my daddy will get an RS6 :p" ...... Erhmmm go and check the price of both cars, it might do you some good.

I bet we have a lot of UCP members with fair amounts of money and not bragging about it, you honestly look SO bad in front of everybody everytime you reply with a ridiculous post like that... I honestly couldn't care less of what kind of clothing you have, go join a fashion forum or something.

Your point was irrelevant and stupid.

I agree on this one, It doenst make you anymore of a valuable member because you claim to wear all of these everyday. No one gives a sh*t about wealth, not on forums anyway. I bet there are over a hundred people on this site who are 10 times richer than you are, but do you know who they are? No. And thats because they don't brag.

I also made A comment in the '' My dad's new car.... GALLARDO'' thread. Where you said, ''so my mom will be getting an RS6 soon''. To which I replyed '' Ohhh you would have to have the best car, which was followed by no offence meant, even though there was. Everybody knows how ''rich'' you are, so stop talkin about it, no one gives a crap anymore. Just be sure to inform us when your family gets all these cars. :)

dang, ok, well i never said any of those things, and im not bragging i posted it to prove a point that even if you have the money its all personal preferance and just because you prefer a mercedes over an audi you dont have to call an audi a peasant car, it wasnt meant to be a serious post.

and for the record the question was "does gbrowns dad have ucp COOLEST car" :p

theres no need to say all that shit really is there?

if you honestly find me that annoying put me on your ignore list, and im sorry you feel that way

I don't find you annoying, only that kind of comments piss me off.

One thing that I have learned is not to brag about stuff, lives do turn around and you might be bragging today about something that your dad might never get and end up looking like a fool/liar in front of everybody.

And no, I cannot add you to my ignore list... As a mod I shouldn't as I have to be aware of everything that's going on + I don't want to do it.

Btw I do hope your dad gets it.... But the Gallardo will still be cooler :p ;)
