View Full Version : Make all lights stay off

I want to make some kind of switch that can turn on and off all existing and nonexisting lights in a car. Taillights, headlights, interior lights, engine compartment, trunk, LEDs, dashboard, glove compartment. Everything. When the switch is off no light has to be on. When the switch is on all lights need to be back to normal in functioning order.
My knowledge of electrical cicuits is limited though I made cicuits long ago. Even though I know some things the electrical system in a car is not to be ****ed around with but I have to do this.
I need to do this on my own and I cant go to someone who is certified to do this even though I am willing to invest the money that I got and don't got to make it work.
Anybody have any info on how I can do this? Anything at all is appreciated.

find the fuse box and locate the fuses for the various lights. A simple switch across the outputs might do the trick. WARNING: Disconnect the battery BEFORE doing this. Also this might be illegal.

Thx a lot. Where would the fuse box be located on most cars? I have not looked in the manual for the car I'm doing this for yet but I doubt it will say anything about that.
I have managed to get rid of all the lights in the interior by taking them out but I still have a couple that need to come back on especially on the outside.

The fuse box is sometimes accessable through the glovebox, whether behind it or whatever. Try looking there. The location of it though should be in your cars manual.

If it's not too much trouble, why exactly do you need to do this? No one here will prosecute you, but I myself am interested. If its easier, you can Private Message me the answer. :)

One more question and I'll be on my way.
Does anybody know where I can get some non-reflective taillights and non reflective turn signal lights? They have to match the stock ones in appearance as much as possible. Thx.

Not too sure I can help you on that.. let me look around. This is starting to sound eerily suspicious, yet cool.

Yeah, totally... I wonder what he's up to :)
He didn't seem to mind that some of this might be illegal.

I only know how to turn more lights on; not get rid of them. ;)
For the OP- Your best bet is getting a shop manual for your car and learning how to read/intepret/apply electrical diagrams. As for getting rid of the reflectors, you might try baking your lights in an oven to melt the glue that holds the lenses in and removing them. This works for the VW guys who paint the insides of their headlights black.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of car is it, and what are you doing with it? Or is it super-secret hush hush style?

You'll all be prosecuted soon for conspiracy to commit a crime and aiding and abetting a felon...
Yeah since he won't tell us where he lives you can't say its illegal, but in most places you could be cited for unsafe driving and illegal modifications just like over tinted windows or no muffler

If you don't know where the fuse box is, you shouldn't be doing this.
