just another concept and crowd pleaser is my guess, i rememba it now, quite a vicious looking work ute, but meh the costs probably killed it.

I think it would be a death trap very light on the rear there.
They might have got some shit if they made that with LS2 maybe it might come around again for VE?

A solid steel tray though would end up about the same as a pickup body though, and who knows what they mightve done UNDER the tray, you have to wonder if its cause HSV didnt want to make a sports car with a live axle/leaf sprung rear end

Hmmm... And i think your right there might expose a bad handling car since they havent done much if anything with leaf springs might have been a $65,000 dud.

they had the opportunity to do it, they released it what 4 years after the Falcon one tonner? and they took that opportunity to let it carry 100-200kg more with how the seperate box section is integrated into the monocoque section....

but ford have been given heaps of credit for how the XR and FPV utes handle, maybe that was a challenge best left alone?

Yes i think your right again:)

Merging it with the Yank-style pick-up Ute rear end HBD was playing around with a while back would be a winner I reckon.

ahh, the flareside idea....could have alot of merit. Might solve some of the issues slick had about weight over the back axle as well

Plus it would look completely badass.

And if anyone complains it "Too American", nearly every good looking Holden muscle car has used overtly Yank styling elements.

Not just Holden, the whole local RWD scene relies on the US. The XA was supposedly styled from the Torino, the 48/215 was supposedly styled off some Chev, theres countless other Holdens that are dead set mirror images of other GM products....the list goes on.

The HJ Monaro is pretty much a Chevelle with minor changes, its only just in the last 15 year that Holden's gone overtly European. Personally I think that the cars are too big to use European styling, and since American styling is in the gutter at the moment, Australian cars should try and be more unique.

But not to much yank cause then they wont sell at all:p

the charge would read "driving with a deadly weapon" if you got caught in one of those. the rear would be deadly with 297kw under the bonnet! got oversteer?

Its humorous to think that with the styling similarities between the old Monaro's and Chevelles (which were apparently similar under the skin to GTO's) and all the yanks complain about the styling of the new Monaro based ones, yet its probably damned close to how the GTO would look had it stayed a continuous model.

Well if you look at the FPV Pursuit with its power/torque figures and relatively ancient rear end, its pretty tame.....
