a few questions for all the techies here:

1. Is there any possible way to rig a sim card phone to work on a GSM (i think it is called that) network?

2. If not, can you buy phones that are the same type of network and get them to work on said network, even if the phone is not on the networks website?

3. Is there a camera/PDA/phone/qwerty keyboard combo that is reccomended?

A GSM phone has a SIM. You can use any GSM phone on a GSM network. In the US you are forced (mostly) to buy whatever your carrier sells. But, you can use any GSM phone you want provided it's compatible with American frequencies. (In europe we have 900/1800 mhz in the US GSM uses 850mhz and 1900mhz).
CDMA phones are NOT compatible with GSM networks.

I have no idea what you mean with question 3.

if you have the phone unlocked (can be done cheap or if it's a nokia for free) you can use it on any network

i got the name wrong its the iMate Jasjar although iMate sell their phones to T-mobile and they get rebranded, ie iMate JAM becomes T-Mobile MDA or Vodaphone VPA

I class myself as "in the know" when it comes to PDA's, so if you need to know something just ask

it may say that much, but from the actual phone company it will probably be cheaper. I own one of the best PDA's on the market (FSC Loox 720) and it cost me £364 or $642 and that doesnt have a keyboard (although you can plug a usb keyboard into mine) Windows Mobile 5, a swivel screen or the phone capabilities

oh, only $600, ok thats better! :p

im looking at a sidekick II cuz it has everything i need, only bad thing is that it is $200, plus the $175 cancellation fee for my current carrier

ok a few more questions for MEA!

what do these things mean:

-All Digital Phone
-TTY Compatible
-Meets FCC SAR limit. Manufacturer's highest FCC reported SAR 1.1 at ear, 0.995 on body. Actual SAR may vary.

What about the Sony P910? That's a mobile with PDA functions and a qwerty keyboard. I don;t know how good the phone is, but I had a P900 and it wasn't bad.

try a blackberry maybe? or the palm treo 650, and some other one have a no camera option, but why wouldnt you want a camera?

anyway so aestetically (sp?) which one do you prefer?

the treo(silver), or the vx9800(dark grey)?

You could aways look at the iMate Phones (the Jam is probably best for you) although most netwroks rebrand them)

...? i dont imply that im super rich, but does it not seem redundant to buy $300 worth of stuff when i already have 2 small things paid for that do they same thing? thats $300 i could use for something else, like part of my car, for only the price of carrying an extra 2 ounces in my pocket, and from what reviews ive read they said its nothing special
