i was thinking that all of our "car designers" could have a weekly competition, sketches or plans, all hand done, no coloring, and then just scan or take a picture of the end result, who would be interesting, i am thinking me, coventry, rise against, esperante and anyone else who wants to join

Design competition attempt number 152. It'll fail within a week. :)

This has been tried a few times. It never lasted more than a couple of weeks IIRC.

My happiness if a design competition were to finally take off:100%
Chances of another design competition taking off: .05%

Don't give up so easily.
Uri Gagarin didn't sit there and say: "Well, gee, I don't know. That dog we sent up didn't last very long..."
Might as well give it a shot. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
I'd be down for a "maybe" depending on
a) prior commitments
b) quality of brief

then lets let the designers "design" the competition ;) then it would have a much greater chance of success
anything you guys would want included/excluded

a weekly competition is ridiculous to even consider do you know how much time these things take? plus how much spare time we have?

My sketches take less than an hour, if I don't do a background.
I find that it's actually creating a design that takes longer than the drawing itself.

That would be cool with me but I do need practice in rendering too. :(

I think that it sounds like a good idea. I'd join in if I had a digital camera or scanner.

Not if you can sketch quickly.
1:38, including ~10s getting the biro to work, and coming up with the idea.
It is quite small due to the size of paper to hand, but size doesn't dramatically alter the ammount of time needed to do something like that.
Edit:
Ah crap, now I'm going to have to go and spend 30 mins drawing...
Thanks!

I suppose. I have the tendency to draw little thumbnails on the edge of paper but always have to complete it. The shortest I've ever drawn a car is about 5 minutes. I have 'special needs.' :p
