today i was sitting in class watching a video when it suddenly hit me. i instanly new what i wanted to do with the rest of my life. All this time i had been looking at professions ie: photographer, editor, pilot of some sort (never) car designer (all the cars would look the same) and stuff like that.
then were watching this video and i get this strange feeling like, oh god, i know what i was put on this earth to do. i leant over and told the guy next to me and he simply said 'cool'
so i was wondering, what kind of education (what classes, what degrees and stuff) would i need to get a job at a car dealership. perferably an exotic one like ferrari, lambo or aston?
this weekend i might stop buy some dealerships to ask people this question but what do you think?

You might want to ask Tom (Quattroman), he works for an Audi dealer and does quite well for himself. :)

I'm not sure on the education part, but I think experience would be a huge part of getting a job at an exotic dealership, like years at a *put name of lowerpriced car brand here* dealership.

There will be thousands of people who are in your position and they all want to open a exotic car dealership... So to get the edge you need to get ALOT of experience... Continue school and get decent grades and get a job as a car sales man... Slowly start building up from there... You cant just create an exotic dealership without any experience...

Walk into the nearest exotic dealer (preferably Lamborghini or Ferrari) with a gun and demand employment. Usually works. Except when they step on the button that deploys police to the building. Watch out for that bit.
1. Steal Ferrari.
2. Sell in NY for $5000
3. Just add water.
4. Repeat.

A good tip is to subscribe to some car mags and learn EVERYTHING about the cars. So when you apply for a job, you can walk into the dealer and just start discussing the cars. That would make a good impression. Also look into doing something at college which can prove you are able to speak to people well.
If you really want to do well for yourself, use Tom Hartley as a role model. He's young and has already sold alot of exotica in the UK. Although he inherited the job somewhat from his father.

A car salesman is not a fun job. It could be fun for as job during the summer but not as a full time job. Get it out of your head.
Oh and you don't really need any education. You must be able to convince people, that's all.

On the education that i will follow, (Automotive engineering) next year, there is also a large part of economics. You can choose whether you want to do the sales/economic sie or really want to do the technical side of it. This helps a lot. check whther stuff like this is available in the US.

You're on dope man. You definetly need education. Preferably a dgree in Social Economics and Automotive Mechanics.

I'm sorry but a freaking car salesman does NOT need to know anything about mechachnics nor social economics. Social Economics ? sheez. Maybe some basic knowledge of accountancy and a big mouth. That's all you need.

Take a basic automotive class at UTI or Wyotech, graduate in top 10%, and you can get into the manufacturer specific programs for free, and automatically be planted into a manufacturer dealership. You're actually REQUIRED to work for a dealership for the next 8 months.
This is my plan for life;
go to UTI, take their basic automotive ASE course, graduate top 10%, get into the Porsche Manufacturer Specific program, graduate, and head to a porsche dealership in washington. I'll be 19 when I'm done with all my schooling (in a school, that is), and be making above 60k/year. As a 19 year who can't even drink. I'll be able to start my own bloody family and my friends'll still be in pre-med.

Doesn't need it, but it helps sell cars.

That method has been tested and tried for a success rate of 100%. If anybody does not try it, a gun will be pointed on your head. Shall you fail, an Ak-47 will be put in deployment until your body is found in the sea.

This is probably the best advice. As Drakkie said, in the Netherlands there is even a special school for it: the IVA in Driebergen. I know somebody who went to it. He worked for Opel, Ford and since his 50th he works for Jaguar. (after working as a salesman for over 30 years)
Sow at the end of time it comes down to either a good education and experience, or some very good connections...

Ok, my dad and his brother (a car engineer) always wanted to revive the Elvro garage again. And the Elvro garage is the garage of my grandpa and they grew up in it. This might be a golden opportunity...

Boy,
All it takes is balls, a lot of charisma and you wanting to do it really REALLY bad... you don't necessarily need a college education, as long as you know enough about cars to make conversation and not make an ass out of yourself... and have some common sense please.. i mean really, its all what you make it out to be... you don't have to follow any one plan, do what's best for you ... seriously
