We'll as some of you knew, I had a wonderful time at barrett-jackson with my Canon SD500 last weekend....that was until i got home and half my pictures turned out crappy (example: dodge nitro).

So today i found my 4 yr warranty (gotta love best buy) and returned it for the SD550. Turns out best buy has had 8 returns in the last month with SD500's...all with complaints of fuzzy pics. The SD550 model cost me no extra charge and the fuzzy picture problem has been fixed. Added bonuses with my new camera are a 2.5 inch lcd screen (as oppoosed to my 2 inch sd500) and AVI video instead of mpeg.

So i'm very happy to say the least. You can all look forward to some good pictures this week, as I will be doing some new photoshoots.

p.s. always buy warranty's!

The fuzzyness is absolutely not the camera's fault. but whatever..

yes it is. the manager at best buy told me that they have sent back 8 sd500's to canon and canon returns them rebuilt and they have the same problem's...so canon is currently investigating what is wrong with the sd500 model.

what else could it be, what would cause a perfectly still camera sitting on top of a tripod, to take fuzzy pics? next time, dont even reply in these kind of threads unless you have had experiance with it yourself.

My mother has an SD500 and it doesn't do that (well it's an Ixus something but it's the same camera).

A good explenation of fuzzyness could be that alot of people tend to push the shutter release and pull the camera away, thinking that the picture has been taken as they do not think about the shutter release slowness found in point and shoot digital cameras...

I thought that would probably be the problem (as it would be for 95% of the people) since you didn't say that you used a tripod in the OP.

But even then a tripod is easily shaken, especially in busy areas and with a photographer who's in a hurry.

And I would hardly call my self unexperienced. I know my shit when it comes to photography and even make money with it.

i'm not saying your an un-experianced photographer, i'm saying you dont understand the circumstances because you dont have one

and with the tripod, sure it can move, but even in perfect conditions, using a 10 second timer to let the camera stop shaking from me pushing the button, and the fact that 8 people returned it within a month tells me there is something wrong with it.

Yeah well my reaction was based on my experience with exactly the same camera which didn't show that problem. And knowing how most people use their point and shoot.

It does look pretty weird. It does look like fuzzyness caused by camera movement. i don't know what else could introduce that kind of fuzzyness. I'd guess that it's probably the shutter that introduces serious vibration in some of the cameras at certain shutter speeds like 1/8 of a sec (like this pic).

i know what you mean, i thought it was from me moving as well, but when a tripod and 10 second timer doesnt fix the problem, i had a hunch something else was up
and even before i reached the help counter at the geek squad (best buy) the girl there says so you got fuzzy pic on that sd500. She herself apparently has one and it is fine, but like she said 8 have been returned and the 3 people working in the camera department have all traded their's in for sd550's

if you have a warrenty, you should return your's as well, even if it's not broken, maybe you could upgrade to sd550:cool:

well it is clearly caused by a slow shutter speed and the camera moving slightly while the sensor is being exposed. since it was on a tripod and other cameras have had this problem, it may very well be something wrong with the camera, maybe something vibrating or something along those lines, but it is clearly motion blur.

anyhoo, congrats on the new cam, have fun.

Sadly that's not how most warrenties work in Europe. Trading in a product months after you bought it is impossible. Warranties are only there for repairing stuff.
