If you’re a Mercedes fan, you’re probably familiar with the SLK-SLR engine swap commissioned by Dubai car collector Mohammed Ben Sulayem. He famously put an SLR engine into his white SLK55, turning it into an Enzo-killing rocket. Ben Sulayem is now working on a new project: putting an SLR engine into and E55!

You could have put this in the Euro forums really...
Are Mercedes-Mclaren supplying him with SLR engines or what? I doubt he's buying SLRs and leaving the carcass behind...

...carcass...

ha ha ha awesome word

he could well be just buying SLRs, what would be the harm in that? Only a few hundred thousand burnt away.

Why settle for an SLR engine? He should try and get an F1 can engine... now that would be cool. Doubt if it would work, or survive long enough to enjoy, but hey.....

hmmm, any wrecked SLR's with stealable engines? i know a few ricers that would love them for their Peugeot 106's! But i i were him, i wouldnt do it to an E-Class, go for the S! then you have a comfortable car, and a bloody quick car (hmmm, why not combine them with a CLS-SLR? That would be something special!)

The E-Class is a comfortable car..like most Mercedes...excluding the A-Class that is.

Well i think the Slk was a pretty good idea, the E-class i think isn't worth it. Just get an E55 AMG no point in spending all that extra cash. The Slk has a nice hood and is distinguished, the E-class looks plain ugly

I seriosuly believe that cash isn't a problem here...why get an E-55? It's so ordinary...if you got the money then why not do soemthing like this?

Sounds like an engineering nightmare from my point of view. But then again, I don't know much about engineering. :D There's no point in putting an SLR engine into an SL. There's already the SL65 AMG. There's lots more potential in that.

exactly because its so ordinary... why have the flashiest car around when you can have an e-class that could burn any ferrari/porsche/lambo at the stoplight...? i wonder if this would kick the heck out of a brabus EV12

does anybody know more about that guy Mohammed? he has a website which is quite a homage to his 'accomplishments'... but im curious as to what he does... is he a businessman or part of the royal family? he needs to have major loot to afford these kind of toys...

Why are you talking about the SL?

His next project should involve putting a Carrera GT engine into a Cayman body, with it being MR, is should have enough space if you get rid of the boot and stuff..... that should quench his thirst for speed!!

turning it into an Enzo-killing rocket.
How? It was heavier and less safe.

doesnt matter what engine is in it, still a mercedes and still a piece of deutch sheisse :p putting such a powerful engine would probably only worsen the crap build quality

Dude, these people live in a different league to us (sorry if you are a billionaire on UCP!).... For me, a SL55 would be a life-time achievement, but for these guys, where their best friends' 18 yr old son has one, they're looking for the next best thing. How much can he drive an SLR-powered E-class?

The point is that it can be done, though admittedly it is a stupid one...

he should put a Toyota Supra engine into a Toyota van, that would be funny.

Jamie Oliver's one? :D

And I personally think that the whole exercise of shoehorning these huge engines in these cars is pointless, I'd rather spend my money on something else... however, live and let live :)

About as much as he could before, it'd just have more power. Just upgrade the suspension, brakes and diff and fit wider rear tyres, all of which Brabus/Kleemann/Carlson can do. They can also take the 5.4 s/c engine, WHICH IT ALREADY HAD!, to 640hp for Kleemann tuned engines. If he wanted to change engines, why not just go for the Brabus EV12 Megacar? Its just a massive waste of money, time and SLR engines

I assume you haven't seen the video then?

How does safety come into this equation?

ya know I just love seeing people turning slow looking cars like a luxury sedan into a speed demon by an engine.
