MRDETROIT's & Blitz Challenge to YOU !

Allrighty then,....This is NOT an Offical Challenge and it has it's own guidelines too. It came as a result of the various conversations here and Mr. Blitz stepped up to purpose this endevaour, for which I thank him (props to Blitz) & admire his courage.

The Breif is this;

Create a picture featuring 2 cars in a drag race/chase scene, both cars must have drivers, and the setting is to be on the street (kinda a need for speed thing or midnight club, like that)...no race track stuff this time as that would give me an unfair advantage.

One of the cars HAS TO BE the attached 1970 Cuda 440.
... oh, the orig picture is 2000 X 1333 so be prepared to download it, if you are going to enter this challenge.


Putting other peeps in the picture is optional, as well as the setting/ background enviornment, but it is important that the cars relate to the BG setting and that the CONCEPT remains visiable to the veiwer. What you do to the car itself is entirely up to you, as well as the other car in the picture. Only 2 cars are required, if you decide to depict a chase in the drag race with only 2 cars, but again more are optional).

You have until December 18th to post your entry, and only one per customer please, tho you CAN post progress pixs to get feedback and evaulations if you wish to here. YOU just cannot dramatically alter the picture once you post it.

Thats it.

Voting will commence after midnight DEC 18th 2006, say for one week, so the winner will be decided by Christmas Day !!!...which ever picture has the most votes by then is the winner !

All veiwers here are encouraged to vote for the best rendition of this car & concept.

OK, I found your questions to be very good ones and not just off the cuff BS. So let me answer each one specifically because I think it will clear up some misunderstandings that have been floating around, and you may find the story interesting as well...this is gonna take up some bandwitdh tho,...OK ?:)

52 on December 18th this year.

Yes I do have a Corvette Z06, the red one like on my website picture & it is the 4th Corvette I have had, and I always have one around, however I lost my license to drive for a while (too many speeding tickets !) so right now I dont drive anymore.

simple,...because REX RAIDER is an asshole and I would not take any crap from him at all, so we went back and forth for awhile, he and I even had a battle on another fourm and I got banned from there too because of it ...lol, not that it matters but as you see I dont take any BS from anybody anywhere...if you cant handle me, I have no interest in you, if you attack me personally or my business, (because that has no place on any fourm) you can bet yo butt, it's coming back at cha double time !

OK, the company started from my work with Daytona Beach Speedway development, where a building devolper commissioned me to create a series of paintings depicting the various forms of racing series at Daytona, the paintings are displayed at the private jetport where all the drivers and teams enter the speedway complex, it is open to the public and you can go see them there too. As far as GM goes we are developing a relationship with them that includes desiging Artcar Racewrap designs for specific GM models, Corvette, Monte Carlo...where our designs are made to fit those body designs exactly, from actual GM templates and cars, these designs will then be made available to Participarting GM dealerships for buyers to order with thier new car, and would be installed at the dealership. AS well we are creating a national road show tour with GM show cars displaying our designs at racing events, we are developing the needed relationships with NASCAR and other racing organizations in the USA to carry this out starting in 2007 over the next 3 -5 years.
It is a multi-million dollar proposition that in the works now between GM and the studio. There are no secrects and it is all just a good deal for each of the companies.


5.) Where did you learn to chop/ how long have you been chopping cars?

I have not learned YET !!! I have been drawing & painting cars from age 5. Professionally I have been doing this as stingrays studios for about a year and a half now and I started using the computer to do animation for TV production back in 1980, so I have a very good grounding in the technology of image prosecessing, and it has now become the main tool for our studio work. So technically I suppose I have been "chopping" on this computer from like Oct of 2005.:p ...before that I just drew them or painted car scenes with acrylics on canvas. This is alot better tho than painting, and not as messy either.:D

Pain in the ass this chop has been, firstly thankyou to illusionest for havng a look at wip's and helping me along. No need to tell me about the fact there is no driver in the 'Cuda and the perspective issues with both cars next to each other. Looking for donor pictures was a lengthy and strenous task, coupled with the fact I was doing exams whilst this competition was going.

I don't like tinkering with muscle cars too much, they already have a great presence. Taking this into consideration the chop was more an emphasis on presentation, I hope you all like it..ive had enough of it :D

Also, the scale of these buildings are off in relation to the pedestrians and cars, and there are streetlamps etc. that are mysteriously chopped off. You'll also notice that the intersection to the right of the Viper is about 10 feet higher up than the sidewalk to the left.

Thats a BIG pile up back there (smile)..& Streets in NY are a bit "Curved"...notice the manhole cover (added) in realtion to the wheels, and the Viper is Turning, in a slide to split off from Mr. S & the Cuda, ...to split the chase off in 2 directions, obviously this race is about done, and the chase part is just gett'in goin !!!;) A drag race / chase was the original concept here.

Okay here is mine. Father and son are racing down the interstate the wrong direction. In the distance a police cruiser drives through the median onto the lane in which the chase is taking place. Another cruiser comes off the exit ramp and attempts to chase after the Trio. I gave it a sort of cell shade for a cartoony look. Hope its worthy. Its not amazing cause i only took about an hour on it. But it should meet the requirments. :)

I usually dont say very much negitive but I did better then that with my first chop! you must of been in a very big hurry when you put it together! I see some things wrong with the two cars that I concider a novice to make! Like the front rim on the viper isnt even centered on the tire!! The blower on the cuda isnt centered and several other things but I thing the two I mentioned is enough. Please if you going to brag on how good you are please back it up!! I give you a -1. Sorry! I'm not overly convinced that you can do the simple stuff terribly well. So here's a test to see how well you have mastered the basics of chopping.

DO NOT BULLSHIT ME. This is really the boiling point here. Saying you added or edited nothing to the background or buildings is really the biggest load of bullshit I've heard in a LONG TIME.

Now let me tell you something. The building on the left (with the colonnade) is the Farley Building, home to Moyinansh/Penn Station and the US Post Office. Across the street is Madison Square Garden, in reality. DO NOT QUESTION ME ON THIS. For the past month I've been designing a new complex of towers for the MSG site and a renovation of the Farley for an offsite architectural design competition, IT'S IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO REFRAIN FROM BULLSHITTING ME HERE. In YOUR chop, there is a red concrete residential block in MSG's place. I mean, come on, it doesn't fit the shading or even the perspective of the background! NO, you DIDN'T edit out the streetlamps because you thought the Mustang would've taken them out, because no less than THREE poles are all chopped off right along the edge of the building, one of them a good 25 feet above the street! YOU chopped out the streetlamps because it's quicker to just cut out the new building and paste it in right away. Get real.

I'm not overly convinced that you can do the simple stuff terribly well. So here's a test to see how well you have mastered the basics of chopping.

-Rim Change
-Color change

In spite of my circumstance here I am finding the time to do this "Extra" stuff you ask or point out to me...and I did put alot of hours into this thing at the very start too,...and it has ALOT in it as well, NOT saying it is any better than others here, just that I put as least as much thought and effort into the concept, if not more. It seems that you hold me to a different higher standard, and thats OK with me...but be fair in your assesments please.

You don't have to be an architect, you have to be an ARTIST (which I've heard you say you are disgustingly many times), and realize that the perspective at which the implanted building is at does not match the perspecitve of the rest of the shot. It would either be falling down or jutting out into the street:neither of which you truly want.

I'll sketch out what's happening in terms of your puerspective, should need be, because your depth perception is way off in terms of where things are placed and how they're scaled.

It's about chopping wot's there until you start implanting more. The building you implanted into the picture looks like it's falling down because the lines along the side do not lead to the vanishing point.

I'm not really into arch design per se....and besides it is a small point to the overall picture and IT IS correct as far as it goes...from the vantage point of the shot it is correct.

I think you guys are missin the whole scenario art thing of it, and trying to analize it so much that your missing the entire point of it !..or maybe your just not used to seeing someting so close to what you know done so differently ?

I know you all wont give me the credit due for this here, but thats OK, your really not the audience for this kinda work anyway...But, I thought perhaps it would spark a few brain cells anyway, which from the poll thread it apparently did.

The really funny thing (& I do NOT mean this in a determental way)...is that to me ALL of the pictures on the poll thread look unfinished or less than what I would expect for that type of work,...Imaginative tho I will admit...& after all that is all I really wanted to accomplish here.

You implanted a building into that picture. It's the dark red one with streetlights in the way. It does not match the perspective and does not exist in that location in reality. You implanted it poorly and are desperately searching for excuses to cover up for it. Each background picture, originally, had correct perspective, but when you put them together they don't match and look like shit. STOP BULLSHITTING US AND YOU'LL GET THE CREDIT YOU WANT.
