Me and a few of my friends are looking into going to Canada towards the end of August. If any of you can recommend hotels to stay at, places to drink, and things to do, it'd be appreciated. The less money it takes to spend, the better.

Well it'd have to be in the Ontario/Quebec area. The two favorites between me and my friends are Toronto and Montreal, obviously. But, we don't know where we should stay, what to do, and how much we expect to spend.

Montréal/Toronto is definitely the best places you could chose. There's also Québec City that is a very nice place, but it's about 250 kilometers (155 miles) away from Montréal or about 900 kilometers (560 miles) away from Toronto by car so you need to be really in the mood to go there, because Highway 401/Autoroute 20 is damn long and boring to be on. Québec City is a good place if you want to visit, one of the most beautiful city in the world according to tourists. There's also a very decent amount of booze available. I personally prefer Québec City over Montréal, mainly because of its historic status and the fact it's my hometown, but I guess you're not coming here to visit historical monuments, so Montréal will be just right for boozing. It's also bigger and there are more things to do with friends. If you want, I can add details about QC. I could be your guide in exchange of a beer or two ;) Just kidding, I'd be happy to do it for free if you were to come here.
Part I: Booze
Montréal
Saint-Laurent Boulevard: bars, nightclubs, restaurants.
Sainte-Catherine Street West (between Mackay St. and Peel St.): nightclubs, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, shopping and strip joints.
Crescent Street: The place where the anglophone population of Montreal parties. Hip-Hop is wild there.
Toronto
Coming soon.
Part II: Hotels
I will come back on this one, I need to talk to my dad about which hotels we went to that were cheap, just fine, and 2 minutes away from downtowns. Expect this post to be updated.
Part III: Things to do
Montréal
Sainte-Catherine Street is a must, Mount Royal is nice, Old Montréal and Old Port is where you'll find all historical things to visit, Olympic Park, Parc Jean-Drapeau and all the "Little Something" parts of town are also very nice.
Toronto
CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Eaton Centre, Toronto's City Hall, Niagara Falls, Queen's Park, lots of museums. There's also Canada Wonderland that is a good place.

In my opinion save the trip to Toronto, because this is not really a beautiful place or a tourist city it is basically a city for business and working, there are not many attractions or sceneries(this place is all flat)
I have been to montreal and it is an amazing place, and it has a nighlife like no other city believe me the nightlife is CRAZY and the french chicks are hoott,if you are thinking that its gonna be a problem not knowing french thats not true everybody speaks english in montreal and people are verrry friendly.
In montreal go visit mont-royal(beautiful views from up there),old montreal, saint cathrine st.,sherbrook st,the waterfront, the olympic stadium, and oh there are so many things to see, just do a search on montreals attractions,oh and dont forget to go to crescent st. at night as i said crazy nightlife.
Also you can visit quebec city,i have never been there myself but if you look at the pics it is amazing.
If you want to see the most beautiful city in canada and see what canada is really all about you have to visit Vancouver,British Columbia,it is absolutely beautiful, one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the sceneries and the nearby whistler are breathtaking,i have been there once and loved it,but it is very far from new jersey you have to fly there because if you wanna go there by car it will take a couple of days.(just seach vancouvers pics and you will see what i am taking about, although the pics dont do it justice at all)
I knew a guy who once visited vancouver from New York and they moved here instantly, yes its that beautiful.
good luck with your decision.

Haha agreed, plus Ontarians are not exactly the biggest party makers in the world :D
Also, chicks in Québec are better looking, and the clubs don't close at 9:30 PM like Ontario, 3:00 AM ftw!

You might want to keep in mind that the Canadian dollar and American dollar are nearly even now, so don't expect to get a twenty for your ten or anything :p

GTFO.
Haha, I'd say go to Montreal but I was just there, too much French if you ask me...:p
If you're going to go come to Canada make sure you're doing things that you can't do in the states otherwise it's a waste of time, Montreal is a nice city to stay, Toronto would be like a one day thing. Or perhap head up to the Bruce Peninsula for some camping, look up "Cyprus lake".

Ignore ferrarifxx60, he's obviously living in a completely different Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Montreal is a wonderful city, no doubt, as is Toronto. Toronto's highlights:
-The Historic Distillery District (amazing cafes, Toronto's version of Old Montreal)
-Entertainment District. Top 40 clubbing, drum and bass/rave, reggaeton, whatever your scene Toronto has tons of amazing clubs, it also has what is considered the best "rave" scene in North America. (Trance, jungle d'n'b, etc.) It's easy to find events that go till 7 in the morning if you please.
-Live music. Toronto is one of the few Canadian cities that gets amazing concerts. For example I just finished seeing The Roots perform alongside Bad Brains, The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sarah, The Dears, Bedouin Soundclash, and more. Not to mention The White Stripes just the other week. Tons of venues, from small "intimate" clubs to massive outdoor arenas.
-World class theatre. If you're into that, there are always great productions going on at some incredible theatre venues. (Roy Thompson, Four Seasons)
-World class food and culture. I actually STRONGLY advise that you come to Toronto on the weekend of August 9/10/11 if possible. Here's what the city's got lined up for you: Toronto Festival of Beer (hundreds of brewers selling super cheap beer, live music, so much food) and then the same weekend, the Taste of the Danforth, which is a massive food festival. There are tons of great ethnic districts, from Little Italy, Greektown, to Chinatown and Little Portugal. Great French cuisine as well.
As for the city itself, I love it. Parts of it may be bland, but all it takes is a walk through a couple historic districts, the East Beaches, the amazing Harbourfront and Toronto Islands, or the massive glistening towers of the Financial District. If you're into architecture, there are a lot of hidden gems around.
Anyway, that was long and reads like a big advertisement, but I think it's a great city, and well worth the visit. I'll be glad to assist with all travel needs.
edit: In response to Ontario lacking natural beauty, sure it's a bit flat, but check out some of these areas:
-Scarborough bluffs
-Niagara Falls
-Northern cottage country (it's all spectacular, good place to go up and camp)
-Niagara Escarpment
