I didn't even know who he was, but it's definitely something I wasn't expecting, a driver killed in an accident doesn't happen (luckily) too often anymore.
Damn, he was just 18, a kid.

Condolences to the family, I bet John Surtees has a lot of bad things going on in his head right now, must be tough being an ex-driver and possibly promoting your son's career as a driver and seeing him dead now, while he survived to the rawest for of motorsports possibly. Very sad indeed.

Very, very sad news. I can't remember hearing about deaths in serious circuit racing for some years already, so it's very strange to hear now. My deepest condolences to family.

I was also struck by how long it's been since there's been a fatal occurence in motorsport.

2006 - Mark Porter and 2008 - Ashley Cooper, both in V8 Supercars Fujitsu series, both suffering in massive accidents, both televised live.

Condolences to the Surtees family.

This was really a very unlucky event, As i was watching the footage i could not help thinking if he was even a mite faster or slower the tire would have not hit his head

Condolences to the family

Apologies to Porter, Cooper, their fans, and family. I didn't mean to diminish their deaths in any way. It was ignorance on my part, not lack of respect.
However, the fact that there have been fewer accidents is indisputable, stupid sweeping claims by me aside.

I watched the race yesterday and I was really shocked. It's just an unbelievable amount of bad luck that this wheel hit his head. His father was racing for decades in probably the most dangerous years of motorsports and was never hurt seriously, now his son gets killed in a so-called safe racing-environment where injures are very rare. Very, very sad and a big loss.

My deepest condolences to his family.

Poor Henry ...
His father John was able to survive in a time far more dangerous...
With all the security measures today is absurd that certain things still happen ... R.I.P, my contemporary ... : (

I'd like to know why those wheels weren't tethered to the car like they should have been. F1 got the point after Senna's death but it seems everyone else missed that memo.

I have seen a clip of that accident and it was quite disturbing.

This is the first I've heard of the tragic event. I always feel uneasy at the thought of these freak accidents claiming peoples' lives in the most unforeseen ways imaginable. Its such a waste of a young life. To think a bouncing wheel was timed in such a way as to knock a man unconscious as he was passing by, coincidentally before a dangerous corner, leaving him unable to brake, and subsequently losing his life because of it. Life is such a fragile thing.

He was struck by a wheel from another car, and his car then just kept on going straight. It looked really awful, I have to say. I'd compare it to the Massa accident in Hungary, for this was identical. Instead of a spring, however, it was a tyre from another car
