Welcome to the 19 years old club.

I just wish I wouldn't leave it eventually...

I don't want to turn 20.

The twenties mean I'll eventually have to grow up. NAAAAAYYYY

Happy birthday anyway.

Because in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec 18 years old = adult, and in the rest of the Canadian provinces it's 19.

So booze, fireworks, lottery, tobacco and titty bars and whatnot were available for abuse at 18 for me. And dear god did I abuse them. Except tobacco.

Turning 21 for me only means "YAY I CAN DO WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING FOR 3 YEARS NOW LEGALLY IN THE US!!! So where do we go clubbing tonight? Downtown?"

Plus booze is easily purchasable in my city starting from 14 and up. Especially if you're a girl.

We should organize a Canadian UCP meet (and 'forget' to tell Kitdy) and have a drink/beer or two in a pub while discussing cars and whatnot.

You'll see pubs are very nice.

I don't like throwing the word Nazi around as it sorta makes light of a horrible situation but eh I thought it'd be funny in this case.

For some reason (maybe to use a more pejorative word?), we don't call them secessionists but they are referred to as sepratists in the media which this version of Firefox's Canadian dictionary doesn't think is a word. You shoulda been around for the recent "Referendum". I was but a kid but that was a really, really serious time in Canada's recent history and there was tons of hatred and anger - so atypical compared the Canadian stereotype.

My Dad hates Quebec/the French. I figure it's because he thinks they want to destroy Canada.

Your father is probably sketching out about the whole separatist attitude thats been floating around Quebec in the past years. It gets many people wondering. I'm not so sure its much of an issue these days anymore, but my personal opinion is that Canada is stronger when everyone's on the same page, rather than having people wanting to be their own little shenanigan on the side. But thats certain peoples' sense of strong cultural pride. Its very admirable, sympathetically speaking, but doesn't make much sense when you were never a different country to begin with.

As far as anger in Canada is concerned, the most my town has ever experienced was when MC Hammer was performing in Penticton many years ago. The performance started a riot which ended up with people smashing store windows, looting, and eventually rolling our famous beach refreshments stand "The Peach" into Okanagan Lake. Its literally the shape of a giant peach, so it went pretty good.

I'm just razzing you about the N word, I know you mean well. Use it like you mean it bro :D.

Yes but it has nothing to do with race... the 'conflict' if you can call it so is between mainly caucasian Canadians and... caucasian Canadians. Of course there are other ethnics implicated, but in majority Canada is white.

Jacques Parizeau, Québec's Prime Minister during the second referendum in 1995, did say said referendum failed because of "money and the ethnic vote" implying the federal government convinced newly arrived immigrants in Québec to vote no.

The results were:

1980: 40.56% yes, 59.44% no
1995: 49.42% yes, 50.58% no

P.S. I knew this thread would go off-topic :D

He's a clever guy too - he just has a few hangups. He isn't racist or anything I wouldn't say, but last I checked he wasn't that fond of Quebecers. I'll ask him more about it tonight I suppose.

I'm just razzing you about the N word, I know you mean well. Use it like you mean it bro :D.

EDIT: Let's be clear - the last bit is in jest and should not at all be taken as serious. I woulda used a smiley if I used them and I don't want there to be a misunderstanding. I apologize to anyone if I caused any offence.

EDIT 2: I've removed my original comment - it was meant to be a joke but I could see some people misinterpreting it. For those that read it, I hope you know I was being sarcastic and in now way do I believe what I said to be true. I can see how some people could misinterpret what I said and take it seriously so after talking to another member have decided to remove it entirely.

I feel bad dude, I was totally joking about taking any kind of offense to the comment. I didn't want to make you feel awkward about what you were saying, so I hope I didn't add to any of the frustrations. Sometimes I just can't hold myself back from saying stupid stuff, but you don't have to worry about being politically correct around me. Its all in good fun.

Kitdy was merely attempting to appease the frenchies. To do this he had to do something very French to get on their good side; so he surrendered. It was a PR move and nothing more.
That said, to those parties offended, Kitdy, despite his lack of smilies, was being blatantly sarcastic and if you cannot deal with a Canuckistani making fun of you you have no sense of humor nor irony. Being tactful certainly has its place in conversation, but at the same time, political correctness as we currently perceive it has become incredibly stifling and something of a nuisance; a good idea taken too far.
EDIT: Rob, complete agreement.

Oh yeah....
