I love Football!!!! Go Lions and the University of Michigan(ranked 7th for the start of the season). Why not call it football? Because that's the same name those backwards Europeans call SOCCER? :D
Anyways I'm looking forward to a great season of Football and beer. I can't wait.

I'm not a soccer fan, just can't get into it. Maybe its my American mentality, I don't know. Last soccer game I watched was Germany vs. Brazil for the World Cup (I think that was the event). It was a pretty interesting game to watch.

That was a heck of a game to watch since Brazil and Germany are two powerhouses in international soccer! I can't remember the score in that game, but Brazil did go on to win the World Cup...for the 5th time!!! I love to see them play, they have such flair.
I hope more people in the US give MLS a chance, it's a beautiful game...that's what the Brazilians call it as a matter of fact "The beautiful game".

To be fair, look at the name:
Foot ball
It implies usage of the foot.
From what I have seen of American football, there is much more running with, and throwing of the ball than there is kicking.
Now, proper football, what you all call "soccer", the object is to kick the ball about with your foot.
Almost as bad as all the "World" series in which only American teams can participate :D
I am not really a football fan btw.

Go Redskins!!! Their gonna win the Superbowl this year....ok, maybe not. Go Redskins, at least don't loose to the Cowboys!!! Everybody sing: Hail to the Redskins, hail victory...
"...Raiders won the Super Bowl, accidentally."
hehe...at least that's the way we sang it when I was a little kid back in '84, living in Northern Virginia when the (L.A. at the time) Raiders trounced the Redskins in the SuperBowl XVIII.
As for 2004, go Panthers! The Cardiac Cats gave us such a great show last year, including the Super Bowl, I'd love to see them do it again.
Having grown up in Buffalo, I can't seem to get the Bills out of my blood, which is unfortunate and often painful. On the plus side growing up a Bills fan also gave me a very healthy hatred of the Dolphins, which I continue to enjoy. :D
As for soccer, like a lot of people I played it as a little kid. It's popular for kids to play until they get old enough and big enough to play football. :D
Of course, soccer is gaining ever more popularity with all the over-protective mothers out there who can't bear to let little Johnny out on a football field where he might get hurt. Never mind that I saw a fair number of injuries on the soccer field, too, including a friend who broke a femur.
International soccer I find pretty much unwatchable. And is it me or could one land a decent-sized aircraft on one of those fields with room to spare?

look at it this way, Canada and the US are the only countries in the world that call it soccer. Every other country in the world calls it football
Almost as bad as all the "World" series in which only American teams can participate :D
well, American teams are the only ones that get in, but their are two Canadian major league teams (Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos). all be it that a canadian team has only made the world series twice in league history (the Blue Jays in 92 and 93, however, they won the Series both times)

And the Blue Jays have a fair number of fans in the northeastern United States, too. That may seem strange, but those of us who live or who used to live along the border, as I did, often have trouble thinking of Toronto as being in another country. Montreal, yes, but not Toronto. That's not meant to offend you Canadians, but with the proximity of southern Ontario and the ease of entering Canada and returning, not to mention the many general commonalities in culture, when I've been in Toronto I've often forgotten that it's another country at all, until a traffic sign or opening my wallet reminded me.
And growing up with the NHL being so mixed with US and Canadian teams, being a fan of a Canadian NHL, MLB, or more recently NBA team was not strange at all. It's not like they're foreign, they're Canadian! :D
(Again, this is not meant to offend, merely to illustrate to our brethren in other parts of the world the somewhat unique international friendship which exists between the US and Canada. I for one am proud to share the world's longest undefended border.)

You're forgiven then.
The first official 'football' game is actually Rugby Football.
'Soccer' was formed later as "Association Football".
:)
Other sports existed before involving moving various organs of animals around fields/towns which all at times had 'football' as prt of their name usually :)

I knew it was called Rugby football, but didn't know that it came first.
There is quite a fair bit of kicking in Rugby, so it can get away with it.

Actually only countries that speak english call it football, because it would not make sense in languages who dont speak english. for example in Italian we call it Calcio, in Dutch it is Voetbal in German it is Fußball, in Portuguese it is Futball and in Spanish it is Balompié. So I just wanted to let you know exactly how it is.

Exactly how it is ..... Association Football aka soccer rules were agreed, developed and formalised by the ENGLISH. ( and it hurts me to type it :) )
So it don't matter what it's called it's still football.

In Spanish it does, Balonpié Balon=Ball, Pie=Foot. I imagine it's the same in Portuguese since it's similar.
