What car don't they sell where you live that you wish they did??? Since moving to Mexico, I've noticed that Pontiac doesn't sell the GTO here and it doesn't look like they will any time soon. What about you???

They don't have many Twin Cam Escorts and no Twin Cam Cortinas here. Other than that they sell pretty much everything I want here.

The US doesn't have a lot of makes that I'd like to see...
Missing makes:
Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa, SEAT, Rover, MG, Daihatsu, and the Malaysian makes: Proton(?)
Missing models:
MB A-class, BMW 1-series, Diahatsu Copen, and other cars considered too small and unsafe for the american road.(Solution: ban the behemoth-SUVs and then the roads will be safe for smaller cars)

I wouldn't say ban SUV's but it is pretty stupid to drive one as your urban assault vehicle. I love a good 4x4 (they don't come from the factory good, you gotta build em), but it's a moot point having one if you don't offroad. I'd love one as my weekend trailbasher, but would never use it to commute.

No, CIVIC TYPE R, exactly what I posted. There not in America, and I'd like them to be sold in America. Can you see where I'm going with this?

Too bad you don't get the GTO. You know the whole Holden Monaro connection? Well...maybe initially they're just making enough extra for the US market. How are Mexican import laws? Drive one across!! I havn't seen that many being sold though. The car mags bad-mouthed the design so much, I don't know if it will even make it here.
Looking at the list, its a pretty good trade though. The US dealer networks need to be so big that a lot of manufacturers just shy away.
One more reason US color choices are so limited I think. I remember reading here don't remember which post, someone complaining about limited color choices in the US. Its probably this huge market, with 20 dealers in every large metro area and having 100's of such metro areas. With 1000s of dealership to stock.....you get the picture. We're spread pretty thin here.

i think one of the big things is a difference in attitudes about cars here in america and the rest of the world. i juist bought a mini, and i have been getting a lot of flak, people asking how i could deal with such a tiny car. but through the rest of the world it woudl be a mid size car. people here just have to have things bigger than everyone else. i love the little small cars, and wish i had more of a variety. but to be honest, it really would be dangerous to have something like Smart here. you woudl be hardly more noticable than a speed bump.
so what i woudl like to see is a whole paradigm shift that woudl allow america to see the same diversity of cars as everywhere else.
maybe one day...

I think you've touched on something with what size a car the Mini is considered around the world. Although i dont think anyone would consider it Medium sized, but take the Falcon for instance. Here its considered quite large, yet in the US market it would be a Medium sized sedan like the Taurus, and in the UK, it would more than likely be considered pretty large, or at least larger than most peoples needs. I believe the average family car in Europe rates between the size of the Focus and the Mondeo, possibly based alot on the high cost of petrol though

Smaller - between the Focus and the Fiesta !!
and getting smaller every day with the new Modus, Micra, C2 et al :)
Cars are smaller over here coz we don't suffer "penis envy" :)
No but seriously, we've much smaller roads and twisty routes in towns and cities built 300-1000 years ago !! Big cars just don't fit in comfortably.
So things like Smarts are becoming common in the towns and cities.
On top of that the traffic density is growing, smaller cars make it easier to join traffic flow at low speeds - folks won't let a huge Merc in but will let a dinky Smart :)
Mid-size car fuel performance is only about 10% worse than the smallest for the new gen diesels !!!!

Well i suppose i missed all those factors on the previous post :p
Over here, the large RWD's stuck around after during the 1960's when Holden and Ford really got stuck into local manufacturing (although Ford started here in 1925 and Holden had the 48/215 in 1948). Towns were heaps far apart so people done alot of travel, and the roads were pretty crap to say the least. Durability, seating capacity and RWD were the biggest requirements and cars were built around it. Why our new cars still follow this is unknown, but some people say that even 2004 Falcons still have origins back to the original 1960 model.

Yeah our "remoteness" is both a good thing and a bad thing, its good in that we can get things easily enough overseas, its bad in that no one wants to bring it to us from the showroom :p

pretty much nailed it on the head there, they never sell anything good from overseas cept the mainstream stuff like the Rx8 and 350Z but stuff like skylines, evos, early RX7s, supras, are all grey imports...

The locals have told me that import laws have become very relaxed in the past year, to the point were importing a GTO would not be a problem. I'd love to bring one across the border, but since the dealers don't sell it here, maybe getting parts and service will be a problem :(
You're right, it's a pretty good trade off becuase of the cars they do sell here that we don't see in the USA, the Alfa 147 GTA is tempting.

And I happen to think Aussie cars are some of the better new ones, too...
