(text courtesy of DGF Design) Ferrari Aurea arose from a graduation thesis with the support of Ferrari engineers. The Aurea Project was born from the desire to place the F1 DNA on a normal car. With the teamwork of Ferrari's Product Engineers, the project saw a good deal of modification to become a sports car heir to the 360 Modena.

One of the major requests was to “dress” the engine-frame of the 360 Modena. The light changes made to the frame have been verified by a special calculating program (Straus) and compared with the original one. The development has been cured by three Ferrari’s engineers:

• Amedeo Visconti: coordinating and homologation rules supervisor;
• Luca Caldirola: external co-examiner who with engineer Stefano Carmassi (responsible for Enzo’s fluid dynamic) resolved the aerodynamics.

The formal and stylistic evolution went through hand rendering to study models to computer graphics models (Rhinoceros and 3d Studio Max).

This has been, simply, the way of the project.

Hi-res pics of it.

Btw, working in conjunction with Ferrari engineers, DGF arrived at this conceptual design that could stand as a successor to the Ferrari F360 or now-current F430.

looks great, a shame DGF wasn't involved in the 430 or 612 projects... Ferrari shoud re-launch the 355 (355-2005) lol

I think the idea of trying to put the F1 nose on a road car generally looks stupid, and this one does look stupid. This look kind of works on the Enzo because as far as I know it was the first to do so, and the nose shape actually does something: it defines the air channels coming out of the radiator and also is the luggage compartment. But here, and also on the SLR and new SLK, It seems tacked on and useless, like tail fins on 1950's American cars.

This design looks pretty good IMO. Pretty brilliant in that blue.

Well, one of the first.

aerodynamic benefit:

they claimed the same thing about the fins on 50's cars; I don't see how some group of design students is going to make a more aerodynamic car than the wind-tunnel-testing professionals at Ferrari.

Looks like they took the bumper and taillight parts from an Enzo. :D

Then why did the professionals put an F1 style nose on the most aerodynamically advanced Ferrari - The Enzo?

The Students were working with the Ferrari Engineers, so I'm sure if they were doing something particularly wrong or unfeasable they would have been set straight.
