Toyota/Subaru in bed?

A good friend told my Toyota is working on a mid-engine budget sportscar with the WRX's 2.0 turbo four.

Is it so? I've suspected they'd do well by making a true MX-5-rivaling sportscar under the Scion brand in the U.S., but I always figured they'd do it by resurrecting the MR2 without the Down's syndrome piglet looks.

How could Subaru, or more aptly, Fuji Heavy Industries, ink such a deal to boost their competition? Also, it'd make Prodrive's new sportscar with Subaru underpinnings look awfully silly if they could sell it for under $22,500 — unless Subaru's got the next-gen boxer engine waiting in the wings...

Anybody heard anything about this?

Because Toyota bought GM's share in Subaru when they sold up earlier this year.

That would explain it then...

If they do it right, and price it right, it'll be a corker. I might be in line to buy one...

Hey a rwd Toyota sports car! This sounds like the first interesting car from their company in 10 years (if they actually make it).

Quote of the day.

Like i said in the favorite toyota thread they had some great cars but at the turn of the century it got bland really fast.

Intresting idea could be fun if it happens there are already plenty of rear engined kit cars made for the boxer motor and they have been proven to be little pcket rockets. There already a few early porsche replicas using them they are a load of fun

Seriously, their lineup in America has got to be one of the most boring lineups ever.

It'd be real nice if they do make it.
