This new Accord is the first new-model car I've seen in a while where their sales DROPPED compared to the previous out-dated model. Yes...Accord sales are DOWN from the 07' models sold last January. Maybe it's a fluke or maybe there aren't enough new models available...but I personally don't know anyone that likes the redesign. The Hyundai Genesis will be a more desirable car.
well hate to say it, but he's actually right on this one, as far as sale figures go.

for the US market, the new Accord went on sale in September 2007

July 2007 Sales: 37, 142
August 2007 Sales: 47, 360
September 2007 Sales: 35, 031
October 2007 Sales: 30, 936

however, one thing to remember is that summer is prime time for buying new vehicles, rather than fall/winter (except argueably around the holiday season)

for another look at it, the difference between january sales in 2007 and 2008:

2007 - 25, 714
2008 - 23, 957

in other words, the difference is 1757 cars, which means sales are lower, but...honda sold 22,046 honda accords for january 2006!

just remember, car sales will fluxiate throughout the year, and with the new accord only being on the market for 4-5 months, we won't be able to get a true idea of sales until september this year, after the car has been on the market for a year

Yeah, but besides the RDX, I don't think there were any other turbo cars in North America.

The Euro Accord is alright. The American version is so ugly, with the grill and all. Same with the MDX. And the RL makeover is downright horrid.

I don't know why you're shocked that I'm right. This should be a second nature feeling to you.

Do you have sales figures for 2001, 2002, and 2003? I'd like to see how those compare as well.

i just look at it as one of your rationalizations turned out to be right this time

i'll just do January/July sales, then total year end sales to save time and effort and show a comparison between winter and summer buying

2002: 25,947/41,152 - 398,980
2003: 27,449/38,552 - 397,750
2004: 25,402/37,315 - 386,770
2005: 20,074/36,129 - 369,293
2006: 22,046/38,043 - 354,441
2007: 25,714/37,142 - 392,331
2008: 23,957

so, the sales of accords had been doin a fairly steady decline in sales for 5 years straight until 2007 when they went up to nearly 2002 sales levels. although it does appear to have been a decline in sales to you from the 2008+ model to the previous model (2003-2007 model), it shows that sales had actually been declining for some time

perhaps a more accurate way to approach this would be to compare the months of previous years. let's compare the months that the new accord has been on sale with the same month of the previous year:

September 2006: 27,759
September 2007: 35,031
Sales Difference = +7272 cars over previous year

October 2006: 23,645
October 2007: 30,936
Sales Difference = +7291 cars over previous year

November 2006: 22,488
November 2007: 28,161
Sales Difference = +5673 cars over previous year

December 2006: 29,886
December 2007: 31,255
Sales Difference = +1369 cars over previous year

January 2007: 25,714
January 2008: 23,957
Sales Difference = -1757 cars over previous year

so for the five months that the new accord has been on sale, it has only been outsold one of those months by the previous generation the year before. however, one thing to consider is the changing economic times. with the subprime mortgage crisis, as well as the impending recession, people will be more wary on spending money on big ticket items such as a car

just something to consider, although i expect u probably won't

I didn't ask you to post these statistics so that I could ignore them. I have taken this information into consideration.

Just a thought, could the recently dimishing sales of the Accord by a result of the US economic situation?

I am thankful that you posted the information lith8872. I didn't thank you out loud, but anytime someone does a favor for me I am thankful for their efforts.

information were the facts and figures, Lith's line about the credit crisis was a suggestion....there was no way that you indicated that you picked that up, let alone reacted to the suggestion. And it is a matter of elementary politeness that if somebody does you a favour you openly thank him for that.

Unfortunately I skipped that as well.

Sorry for repeating.

In the future I'd rather you ask me how I feel about the subject rather than publicly assume that I have rudely ignored an opinon of a person helping me. You are respected amongst the members here and your words carry weight...misinformed post from someone of your "strength" can delay the time it takes for the public to truely understand what type of person I am. I'll try to be more clear in the future.

For this situation I'd like time to absorb the information given to me by lith8872 and possibly reformulate my opinion. I initially responded to his informative post quickly and blandly to avoid possible confusion as to whether or not I had ignored his efforts.

I'm sorry to anyone I have not thanked on the forum, I don't usually make that mistake. I'll make better efforts to show more open appreciation.

If my posts are "misinformed" then you might start questioning the origin of my (mis)information....

Just to go on topic again.

While the market has certainly dropped, the Accord has underperformed compared to the market. Car registrations in Jan 2008 in the US were down 2,3% compared to 2007, yet the Accord dropped 6,8%.

At the same time Honda as a whole went down 2,3%, in line with what the market did, mostly due to their trucks (down 8,9%). The cars actually posted a 3,6% gain.
