It beat it by 3 and a half seconds, 'did so well against'? It got blown out of the water. Like, made a quick trip over to your house to fluff your mom and made it back to the track to still finish first.

It came out $10,000 more actually.

Although I really do like the styling and performance of the 1 Series, I find it to be more towards the "answer to a question no one asked" side. The article even admitted it- it's in a class of its own. It's not quite a compact, nor is it a full fledged coupe. Its rear seats have got to be absolutely useless unless you have no legs. And for the money, why would I want such a small car? Why not just ditch the rear seats? Oh wait, they make that car already- it's called the Z4 Coupe, which is probably better looking than the 135.

I would rather go for the 3 Series coupe, which is way better looking than the 1 Series.

Like the article said, keeping the costs down is important- I'd much rather go for a 3 Series coupe than a 1 Series if it is almost $35,000.

If it had been lighter, it would've been a modern E30, which would be extremely desirable. But as it stands its not that much cheaper or lighter than a 3, which makes it a difficult sell to the bargain hunting crowd, as well as BMW yuppie crowd who probably would just upgrade to a 3 instead....As a driver I am interested in the car, but I'd put it on a diet and get a LSD in it before it's a complete package.

The Tii version might be the one you've been waiting for....

Well some of what you say has a hint of truth mainly to do with the evo styling and image, but If one was after a "mature" car there are many better choices in market than a 135i bimmer. Besides by my veiwpoint the Evo X was the more sensible choice in the review. 4 usable seats, cheaper and more fun if you choose stick shift

Fun wise I think nothing can beat an FR layout. I have nothing against the 1 series, they just seem so awkwardly proportioned.

All I can say is the 1 series has a very strange and interesting shape. Strangely, I like the shape of the BMW 1 series.

Maybe it looks better face to face. I haven't seen one live yet, I'm just going by pictures.

I would not get the automatic either so I'll give you that but who the hell buys a barebones BMW?

Well you certainly can see 1ers with hubcaps and black bumpers and door handles, so I guess you're right. Wheter they buy it for the car of for the badge is another story though.

Ours isn't that basic, it has 3 extras (xenons, 16" alloys, metallic paint). But I definitely prefer that than a fully equipped Fiat Bravo or something.
