What will happen to Holden if Zeta gets killed off?
Will they have to stay with current platform? Worse, move to FWD?
Hope not, cause if they moved to FWD IMO it would kill the Aussie car industry.

Well in the thing Quiggs posted it said the American ZEta developments. Not anything about Australian or European.

I think Aussies need to buy Holden from GM before it goes down the drain

Wouldn't happen. Holden relies on GM for engines. They'd need to find a reliable provider for engines before they'd seperate. And Holden is good for GM, cause the Commodore sells world wide, in places such as the Middle East and stuff. GM wouldn't let Holden go.

What goes on in America affects Holden Down under.
This is going to add another 2-3 years to the development of the VE commodore. if it gets developed at all. Ford Australia rubs their hands in glee........

Killing off Zeta would be absolutely stupid and pointless. Why stop something they've invested millions of dollars and years of design and engineering on? Australians will not accept FWD big cars, let alone V8 FWD! Holden has played a huge part in the development of Zeta and if GM let them, could probably use it themselves if GM doesn't want it in the US

Is there a link here i missed ?
Holden at the moment means more to GM then GM to holden. Holden was well under way building the zeta before GM wanted in. Holden does own zeta that is the truth. But GM owns holden. The reason GM shouldn't mess with holden is simple as this. In the states they tried FWD. Lost all contact with RWD and now rely on Holden to build a Cheap RWD platform. So if GM makes holden go FWD across the range bye bye HSV And goodbye Holden. They are to smart to fully stuff a good thing let's hope. At the Mo GM is at a all time low with me. Holden has never been this strong before In Australia And they are getting ****ed right now cause GM is losing money and Toyota is getting stronger. On the engine front we can thank GM for holden not building there own engines anymore. In the 80's they had 2 engines on the cards first was a 5.0L OHC V8 that was built and they said it was sweet. The second was to build a V6 out of the old 253 V8 That didn't get to far GM put a stop to both.

what was the go with this OHC 5L? i've heard it mentioned in passing on other threads but have heard nothing else of it? anyone got specs or designs? was it just OHC heads slapped on the good ol' holden lump or a completely new motor?

I think it was a fully new motor.
OHC about 190kw 450Nm. Fully standard and smooth as a baby's bum they said, And that was the late 80's. Imagine what it could have been today with 15-17 years of work. We wouldnt need the gen3 or gen4. It might have been 5.7L by now or 6L maybe? But GM made it so we will never no. But that was back then and now a days i don't think holden can build a engine like that now. Was the first OHC engine in GM ![]()
