The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries issues the following summary for the retail sales performance of the automotive industry for April 2005, based on the industry's standard retail report, VFACTS.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries advises that the forecast for 2005 is 980,000 vehicles.

* The April 2005 industry volume of 76,330, sets a new record for an April month, the previous record of 71,305 was set last year, and is up, 5,025 vehicles or 7.0% on April 2004. April 2005 (25.0) had 3.0 more selling days than April (22.0) 2004, resulting in a decrease of 187.9 vehicles per day or 5.8%.
* The April 2005 market is down 10,096 (-11.7%) on March (86,426 vehicles). April (25.0) had 0.4 of a selling day more than March (24.6), resulting in a decrease of 460.1 vehicles per day or 13.1%.
* The Passenger Vehicle Market increased by 2,566 vehicles (5.8%) versus the same month last year, whilst the Sports Utility Vehicle Market, increased by 1,398 (11.3%), the Light Truck Market, increased by 929 vehicles (7.4%) and the Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market increased by132 vehicles (5.9%) over April 2004.
* Toyota was market leader in April, followed by Holden and Ford. Year to Date Toyota lead Holden with a margin of 1,935 vehicle sales, or 0.6 market share points.

The year-to-date 2005 market of 313,330 vehicles is running ahead of the same period in 2004 by 5.1% or 15,305 vehicles. With 0.3 selling days less in 2005, the daily selling rate increased by 166.2 vehicles per day or 5.5%. The Passenger Market at 193,645 vehicles is up by 7,247 vehicles (3.9%). In spite of the strong market, mixed results by segment show that, whilst increases were returned by, the Small car segment up, 8,842 (15.5%); the Medium car segment up, 1,790 (11.7%); the Light car segment up, 1,378 (5.1%); the Prestige car segment up, 1,349 (11.3%); the People mover segment up, 725 (17.7%) and the Sports car segment up, 451 (17.2%), the Large car segment down, 6,064 (-10.6%) and the Luxury car segment down, 1,224 (-11.0%), failed to improve on their volumes same period last year. The Sports Utility Vehicle Market at 60,401 vehicles is now running 7,889 vehicles (15.0%) ahead, in year-to-date terms. The SUV Medium segment is up, 7,624 (49.2%) and the SUV Compact segment is up, 1,590 (6.5%), again not all segments are experiencing growth with the SUV Large segment down, 703 (-9.0%) and the SUV Luxury segment down, 622 (-12.7%). The Light Truck Market at 50,369 vehicles is running 692 vehicles (-1.4%) behind, in year-to-date terms. The only segment, to experience growth, is the Pick-up/Cab Chassis 4X4 segment up, 398 (2.2%), whilst the Pick-up/Cab Chassis 4X2 segment down 637 vehicles (-2.6%); the Van segment down, 241 vehicles (-3.3%); the Light bus down, 134 vehicles (-27.5%) and the 2.5 Tonne truck segment down, 78 vehicles (-15.1%) are not achieving their 2004 volumes. The Heavy Truck Market at 8,915 vehicles is ahead of the same period in 2004 up, 861 vehicles or 10.7%.

MONTHLY RESULTS

The Passenger Vehicle Market is up 2,566 vehicles or (5.8%). Mixed results were returned by segment, with the Small car segment up, 3,149 (24.0%); the Prestige car segment up, 610 (20.8%); the Medium car segment up, 361 (10.3%); the Light car segment up, 155 (2.3%) and the Sports car segment up, 73 (11.7%), whilst the Large car segment down, 1,542 (-11.5%); the Luxury car segment down, 148 (-5.50%) and the People Mover segment down 92 (-8.8%), failed to improve on the same month in 2004.

The Sports Utility Vehicle Market is up 1,398 vehicles or 11.3% versus April 2004. Whilst the SUV Medium segment is up, 1,983 (54.6%) all other segments failed to improve on their 2004 result with the SUV Compact segment down, 341 (-6.0%); the SUV Large segment down, 225 (-12.0%) and the SUV Luxury segment down, 19 (-1.6%).

The Light Truck Market is up by 929 vehicles or 7.4% on April 2004. All segments were up, with the Van segment up, 418 (26.3%); the Pick-up/Cab Chassis 4X4 up, 375 (8.1%); the 2.5 Tonne Truck segment up,60 (72.3%); the Light bus segment up, 41 vehicles (43.2%) and the Pick-up/Cab Chassis 4X2 segment up, 35 (0.6%).

The Heavy Truck Market is up 132 vehicles or 5.9%, when compared with the same month in 2004.

TOP TEN MAKES

Toyota gained the top sales position in the April monthly market with 15,257 vehicles, ahead of Holden with 14,218 and Ford third with 10,293. Toyota, with a market share of 19.0%, retains market leadership in year-to-date terms. Holden's April result sees them in second position with a market share of 18.4%, with Ford's market share of 13.6% placing them third. Mazda, with sales 5,010 and with a market share of 7.2%, hold fourth position. Mitsubishi sold 4,172 vehicles in April and with a share of 6.5%, are in fifth place ahead of Nissan, on 5.9% market share.

Isn't it funny to see market share drop but still sell more cars then last year.
Wonder how long they can stay infront for the year it will be tuff you could expect to see a drop soon maybe.
Didn't think holden could keep number 1 very long toyota is just huge everywhere now.

Im surprised no ones commented on the drop in the SUV classes, the medium class was the only one to grow on April last year (nudge nudge Ford)

Might be like a new toy they ahve played with it and now they don't want it it's to big and only so many will like them.
Then the Territory is ok in size not huge but large more in with what people want, Noone here really wants U.S size SUV they want Terra size.

The funny thing about this is Toyota and Holden thought they were smart getting the Kluger and Adventra to the market half a year earlier than the Territory, but no one likes the Adventra and the Kluger's too bland for most. By the time the S3X gets here, Ford will have a 2 year advantage over Holden

what are the specs on the S3X? i haven't seen any. is it comparable in size to the tezza cause the photos make it look kinda small

My brother and i like the Adventra
They are very good still but people want more in a SUV then a Wagon AWD, They also want V6. And if the Adventra doesn't sell 40% more with a V6 then it did with only V8 and holden is going all out with this one, Then it will be goooooooooooooooooone out the door to the shit heap

Yeah i think it's about the same if not a little smaller then the Territory.

Yeah, theyve got the X1 there Forget X3 and X5....

Most people i know who'd consider the Adventra straight away talk about taking 50-100mm out of the ride height, so go figure i suppose. No one wants them cause of the SUV-fad, they want them cause of the V8 and the AWD, thats it. That Starr Performance 400kw blower might sway a few buyers as well......

Found the SX3-- X1 Size here .... (length/width/height: 4,639/1,848/1,722 mm) A Commodore is (L/W/H): 4,876/1,842/1,440 mm) Falcon is (L/W/H): 4,916/1,864/1,444 mm)
And just for fun i found it's daddy X5 (L/W/H) 4,667/1,872/1,715 mm) Close Is it based right on that?

That scary how close it is to the X5...

SX3 length - 4639, X5 - 4667....
width - 1848, 1872....
height - 1722, 1715....

Thats just too similar for my liking. Even the margin between the Falcon and Commodore's length is more than what it is between the SX3 and X5

And even more scary i have seen some Holdens that are larger then others when they have measured them up in the books So it's got to be it's mum and dad the X5 Wheelbase was the only one i missed X5 2,820mm and X3 2,795mm. I find to picks of them
