I see a hangover in my future.

Its relativly simple and beer is even easier to manage and much quicker too taking around 3 weeks and cheaper on top of that costing around $9 for the brew. starter kits around $50 and after your first sucsessful 25 litres it pretty much pays for itself

No(r)way.
Good to hear everything went well Charged!
The rusty driving is always a pain in the ass, but it gives you some good times when you are coming back to it! Sorry to hear about the front splitter.

What tires are you running? I run Yokohama Advan A048. I run 30 psi in the back and 32 in front the first weekend this year, though we have a bit colder climate.. (about 12 degrees C on the race day). Unfortunately I couldn't check properly after the races what the pressure was. Nice to share experience on this subject, as I feel that I never learn and hear enough experiences from others in the same situation.

I have ordered a set of Avon ACB10 now, 245/45 13. So I am starting a bit on scratch after some 4-5 years on Yokohama A048. But I really feel that the jump from 205/60 to 245/45 can help me get some more grip with the added power I have in the Alfa now.

When is you next race?

yeah was good simon, had a ball wished I didnt f#ck the front splitter, have to get the brakes working right, try a bigger master and some decent pads up front. Next race is a enduro( for our cars anyway ) 3 x20 min races in July. The nephews are going to drive our cars in it with us to see what their doing.

Few pics of the cars taken by a mate, the photos show the brother and I are nannas on the brakes

Turbo here we come :)

The brother has picked up a 250hp 3sge engine for a steal for his KE20 next incarnation, we will do the conversion at the end of the 2009 season ready for 2010.
3SGE race engine- fresh rebuild- - AE86 Driving Club
Pic of the 3sge he bought

I think I will go the turbo route with my engine,as it will be a good bang for buck conversion, it will be getting a forged bottom end off a GZE use the 20valve head as it will flow nicer. Keep the same cams etc, the g/box(w series),brakes (RX7),wheels will have to be upgraded and the body will be modified for the flares I already have with bigger rubber and 15in wheels.
I have 2 years to save some more cash and hopefully will be driving better.

May have an engine its not a turbo, its a worked NA 3sge, just have to work out a few little snags before the deal is done. This engine makes 260hp at the flywheel and has some good gear in it forged rods and pistons, balanced and blueprinted engine

Specs of motor
ENGINE:

Type: 4 cyl Toyota 3SGE 1998cc 16v dohc.
Just rebuilt with new bearings, seals everything.
Fully balanced and race clearanced etc.
Pistons: Arias forged. Static compression 12.9:1
Rods: Argo Forged.
Crank: Standard Toyota balanced and race prepared.
Sump: Wet. Standard modified & increased capacity.
Cams: Wade. 308 duration. 9.1 mm lift
Pulleys: Adjustable vernier.
Followers: Shim under bucket.
Springs: Yamaha comp.
Valves: Oversize Titanium (ex BMW – very light)
Head: Ported, cc’d, polished. Crack tested.
Block: Interior polished.
Oil pump: Shimmed up stocker from turbo engine (brand new).
T/B’s: Individual 4 x 50mm throttle’s
Injectors: Toyota 355cc x 4
Flywheel: Lightened original, balanced. Professionally lightened as not to compromise integrity/strength.
Clutch: 4 puck sintered brass solid plate, heavy pressure plate clamp.
Oil Cooler: Serck with braided line and all fittings are speedflo (fuel, oil and brake)
Alt: Moved from head to crank area to lower c.o.g.

The advantage over the turbo motor is cost, to go turbo will cost me at least $3500 minimum just for the engine and thats going the cheap route. The turbo motors also need a lot more maintanence, mainly drivetrain as the extra torque made from the restrictor wears the diffs, clutches and gearboxes.
The guy has accepted my offer of $1800 for this complete engine and it was only used for 3 races. The engine is a 3s with a 5s crank and rods so its a 2.2litre, so he is having trouble selling it because it will have to be run in over 2 litre. What I will do is install a 3sgte crank(forged) and rods(forged) to bring it back to 2 litres. I want to stay as a under 2 litre car also, as there isnt many U2L cars that run in SA and they are cheaper to run. To build a 3s from scratch to this engines level would cost at least 5 grand due to the head work and forged pistons and rods. I will sell the rods and crank for about a grand and we have spare sets of 3sgte cranks and rods already at the workshop plus sell my 20valve and its drivetrain(clutch/gearbox) for $2000.

The cost of the new engine plus conversion

Costs(debits)
Engine $1800
Freight $300
Quads $800
Clutch/Gbox $800
Tailshaft $200
Dyno/Engine-G/box mounts $1000
Sundries $400

Proceeds from sale(credits)
20v complete with g/box, clutch etc $2500
5s rods and crank $1000

So it should cost about $2000 to do the conversion which will net another 80-90hp and 100 ft/lb of torque and the motor is fresher than mine

The guy who built it reckons it revs to 8500rpm and with those cams it should. It should sound horn, my 20valve sounds great at redline with the quads sucking

Its got 306deg duration and 9.1 lift so they are very peaky, the original owner sent me a dynosheet when it had webers originally and it made 200rwhp, he rekons when it had the injection he got another 10hp. teh dyno shows good power and a decent flat torque curve so it may be alright with w57 ratios
