As for the car's current lack of balls...

Well - maybe.
I'm close to doing a deal on a either 2005 Ford Focus Zetec with just 8000km on the clock for $22,250 or a brand new Holden Astra CD with alloys, cruise and electric windows thrown in for $23,990. The Astra is a very good deal with the warranty the dealer is offering (six years) plus three years roadside assistance. However, the Focus is slightly better equipped and has sports suspension.
Drove a Mazda3 as well - but the dealer wasn't interested in negotiating a deal to match either the Ford or the Holden.
I'll decide today (Sunday). Going to go look at the new Corolla and Golf. And going to see if the Ford dealer will better the Astra price with a brand new Focus CL (base model, but with a few extras). I can probably live without the sports suspension.
Also, its occurred to me that since I can finance a car and have a 30% residual at the end of the period, that I can consider a brand new '06 plated Falcon XT ESP with six speed auto and sports suspension ($29,990) or even a Toyota Aurion. There's also the option of a 2005 Falcon XR6 for $23K exactly with 40,000km on the clock. But its an ex-rental and since I'll be keeping whatever I buy for about 5 years, I might be better off looking brand new.
I'll let you guys know once final decision is made.

Is the XR4 festiva to small?? My brother and i followed one new with stripe down the middle and it did look pretty good, Didn't see the power from it but the car looked ok..
Rental cars we know how they get used..
Have you thought about the Swift?? The one they showed on top gear was pretty roomie for such a small car and it had some balls to.
If you got a XT ESP you might hold onto it a touch longer then 5 years??..

OMFG!!!

drove to bendigo and back this weekend and FK ME SILLY does this thing drink or what!!! i have put no joke $300 through the tank since thursday!!!!

Ill be ringing around tomorrow to book it in for LPG conversion asap.

Even on highway cruising at 110 it was using 13L/100k

what i find REALLY bizzarre that it sat 3200rpm at 120kph. i wouldve thought it would sit lower then that? also it didnt matter if i was coasting at 60 or 120 it used same amount of fuel so long as i was just coasting... really strange.

I have it booked in at Ford for friday to get a complete bonnet to boot going over, dont want suprises like i got with the 200.

Hmm, sounds like its holding 3rd. Might be a transmission issue. If it is, i guess it'll come up on Friday. I know the Pulsar will do about those revs on the freeway, and i never rev it that high around the streets!

I'm thinking SS front Actually i could go the full monty with it and pass as a VX.. But i'm thinking VT Calais front get the fog lights then think later about the lower SS kit for it not to over the top just a little extra, Might take me 12 months to save for some wheels.

That isn't to bad on fuel for a V8. But that rpm does seem a touch to high for sure, About 2500rpm should be it's mark mine sits under 2000rpm all the time on the freeways.
You should get some advice on that rpm on the highways to see if it's normal or something else?.

Yeah, 3000rpm is pretty high, especially since IIRC the old Ford 5ltr V8s were fairly torquey. Dad's Calais sits at ~2000rpm at 110kmh.

Agree with FPV & 2CC. I can't remember for certain but think MSN said his EL requires somewhere around 1700rpm @ 100kph. Our ED doesn't have a tacho but it's geared tall enough that it still kicks down into 2nd from an indicated 115. But if the NF V8 really is engaged in 4th @ 3200rpm = 110km/h then its got to have a fairly low ratio diff

My old HZ Kingswood 3-speed needed 2800rpm @ 110km/h with the 3.08 ratio diff

Oh dear oh dear. if it's holding gears like that it might just be a TPS (throttle Pressure Sensor). that cost about $500 to fix on the jeep.

it's not life threatening. Actually MSNerd's Falcon seemed to have a similar problem......
