RT E38 Charger on Ebay

After the record sale of the GTHO, I'm wondering what the Charger will go for.
It was featured in street machine and aust muscle car.

You are bidding on a Valiant Charger E38 R/T 6 pack track pack (as the factory liked to call them).

Charger R/T VH7S29-0047 was the 24th (of 316) E38 optioned cars in the first month of manufacture. Its in original factory specification including original body shell and engine block(sadly this is important these days). It left the factory in the hero colours of Vitamin C with black interior. The Charger is classified as a J82 (factory standard race package) which was built to homologate the R/T type for racing.

The car left the factory with the following options:

Option E38:

265 Hemi 6 pack competition engine (D363B 0035)

Race pistons, rods, crank, bearings, and hand selected block.
Big harmonic balancer and twin plate clutch.
Triple 45mm Weber carbs.
+ more.

Option A84:

160litre fuel tank with twin fillers (mounted on sides of vehicle).
16:1 close ration steering.
Finned rear drums.
Alloy race wheels
Race brakes (including proportioning valve) and hubs.

Option A66 - Hood and Fender dress up package (blackouts)

Option A95 - Interior dress up package including reclining buckets, carpets, and sports 3 spoke steering wheel.

To add to its uniqueness (and as part of the J82 spec) this car had no quarter vent windows in the doors and opening rear windows, which is extremely rare in a VH Charger. The change in ventilation was designed for improved distribution of airflow for racetrack.

This car is the real deal with indisputable provenance. It has a "known history" its entire life and has been involved with many clubs including the Queensland Charger Club, WA Charger Club, Slick6Packs Chrysler Club, and Tamworth Chrysler Cruisers. This car has not magically appeared to take advantage of the current Muscle car craze - it has always been involved in the Chrysler scene, owned by passionate Chrysler people, and hopefully will continue to be. They say its fun to Google your name and see what you find - when you Google my name you find this car!

The vehicle is an older restoration (1988) and still presents impeccably. You can buy an older resto with confidence knowing that anything bad will be visible (and not hidden below fresh paint) - there is very little bad here to see! The Charger has no rust (now or ever) and the body is straight. Seats have been re trimmed in original vinyl whilst hood lining and door trims are all factory original and in excellent condition. A NOS steering wheel was fitted several years ago. The vehicle is fitted with a 4 speed gearbox as opposed to the factory correct 3 speed. This was a common upgrade for E38's in the 70's and most I have seen have had this performance enhancement carried out.

History:

I purchased VH7S29-0047 in 1999. The car was residing in Brisbane and had been owned since 1984. Prior to this it had been a Sydney vehicle since new and was owned by a Doctor who purchased it almost immediately upon the release of th Charger!.

0047 has had a sheltered life. All numbers match and the only variations from factory are the 4 speed gearbox, the wrong oil filler cap, and some updated engine internals. The car has indisputable provenance and was featured in Street Machine magazine in 1987 as part of their "Castrol Collection" articles on Australian muscle cars. At the time the Charger was still wearing 16yr old factory war paint – the attached article shows the excellent condition of the car at this time in its history.

The vehicle was taken off the road towards the end of 1987 to rectify minor defects – this evolved into a full restoration (as these things do) which wasn’t completed until 1989. During this period the car was stripped totally back to metal and painted inside, outside, and underside. Attention to detail is stunning and of note is that NO RUST was cut from the vehicle at the time. Its unique straightness attests to the fact that it has had no accident damage, rust, or defects during its life. The Charger has rarely spent a night outside of a garage in its 36 year history and has traveled less than 20’000 miles since restoration.

The benefit of purchasing an older restoration is that you can see every defect with the vehicle – there are very few defects to inspect, meaning this is a very solid and cared for Charger!

0047 has featured in various mags and calendars over the years in Australia and the US. It’s an early build J82 car (factory standard race package) that was used for homologation of the R/T Charger. With the provenance of this vehicle and the excellent condition of an older restoration you can buy with confidence knowing this car is the real deal!

This is a genuine auction from an honest seller. I have rejected several cash offers currently which fell short of my expectations however the vehicle will sell once the reserve is surpasses.

Thanks for taking the time to view my auction and good luck with your bidding.

I've had a couple of inquiries on the overall condition of the car being too damned good for an older resto. Knowing the car as well as I do (and if I were to be picky and do anything to this vehicle) it would be the following:

Door hinges have a small amount of movement (as most Chargers do due to the weight).

Brakes have been completely rebuilt including nickel plating of the master cylinder and factory correct proportioning valve, however hoses are the original items and could probably be replaced due to age. The pedal is good but like any old car could be improved.
There is a small patch of paint missing on the drivers side guard (the circumference of a pen).
The right lower quarter panel has an area of paint that has shrunk slightly. No bog or defects below but this is 20 yr old acrylic. Finish is still excellent and the area isn't noticeable and in a location that is easily repaired. I would prefer to present the car in genuine condition as opposed to detailing for sale.
Thanks for your continuing interest in this auction and happy bidding.
