Interesting. I would have guessed a much higher number for Australia.

A total population of 21m people would give (at a guess) a "driving age" population of about 15m. So 1 in 15 would could did - and this includes 1 car families, inner city dwellers and the like that will increase that rate by their lack of need to buy.

Makes you wonder though why we have 7 million cars for 16 million people, while we have a lot of cities as you probably know

We are letting most of them return to the earth in the form of rust.

Yeah, new cars, buses and trucks IIRC.

In some ways, 1 mill still isnt much. When Holden broke their record for sales with the VT a few years back, IIRC the previous record dated back to the HQ, albeit in an environment nowhere near so heavily influenced by imports.

7 million cars, or 7 million new cars sold each year? Its the latter which is relevant.

The last 3-4 years straight our figures have been within 50-100K units of selling a million. Even going back 10 years it'd wouldnt be too risky to say we've sold around 7 million.

That's because you dont have a all in one car like we do..

You need a huge truck to tow, 4 door family car family things, 2 door for a muscle car..
In OZ we buy the one or at worst 2 to do all that.
