So Lucky

I destroyed a wheel bearing, ABS sensor, Brake rotors, a set of pads and some other joint thing because my wheel bearings weren't packed correctly.

$729 later….

We were lucky to get back from melbourne apparantly Sam and not lose a wheel at 130kph...

mind you its been probably 18000kays since i changed my brake rotors. Regardless thats a big knock just before christmas

I always knew we were going to die. I just didn't know when.

If it's any consolation, my Volvo just got defected.

No I'm not kidding.

I come from a land down under, Where beer does flow and men chunder
Could be worse. Took my bike in for a service (about $600 with new chain + sprockets). Turns out it's only running on 3 cylinders. Having 4 (small) carbs pulled off, stripped, cleaned, reassembled and re-fitted ain't cheap. Cost me nearly another $800.

High drama on the Hume, Blue I've never lost a wheel on a highway .. although I did once lose a car off a trailer

$92 for the Mrs nota Falcon; annual LPG tank rego-recertification and an excellent tuneup from Robert Hughes (under new management). The old girl is performing absolutely A1 now and the car's not bad either!

Old gas-Falcons are so fantastically cheap to run & maintain. There's no expensive depreciation-factor as I figure we could still sell it for what we initially paid (a miserable $2300) and for 2007 her all-up weekly spend - including rego, full insurance, all maintainance & repairs AND 220 kms of fuel p/w - has yearly-averaged out @ just on $60!

Per-week ~ costs:
$20 = rego & insurance
$20 = maintainance & repairs
$20 = LPG

This is sensationally cheap motoring imo, literally it'd be more expensive to take the bus!

By contrast, in three years ownership of a bought-new Daewoo Nubira a work colleague lost $100 p/w in depreciation alone

I'll be hitting the Hume soon when i head 1 year late to Shepparton.

Going to be good to see how the VP runs on the highway fuel wise there and back. 1 Tank job easy.

I get pulled over for apparantly overtaking a marked police vehicle (a F**kin administration BF Futura wagon). despite the fact we're on a curved road, and I was in the Inside lane.

After pulling me over Cop 1 tells me I was doing 90 in an 80 zone. to which i reply bull. My speedo says 80, I was doing 80.

after a bit of umm and aah he decides if i wasn't speeding, I must have a faulty vehicle. ergo defection.

2 Problems.

1) I was never given a speeding ticket. thus no proof of this said incident of speeding exists. If there is no proof of speeding how could My speedo be wrong?

2) the Officer failed to correctly fill out the Defection notice - Vehicle unattended? when you pulled me over driving it? lolfail.

IB4R, I don't understand how a police officer could fail to fill out a defection notice correctly. Epic Fail.

In the shed
cops fill out stuff wrong all the time, mine had my bday in the days date

The way i see it is...

Ford wanted to charge $1050 to change my brake rotors and pads WHILST THEY WERE OFF ANYWAY so labour would have been absolutely nothing to them...

Option A:
Pay ford $1050 for a nothing job, get new rotors and pads

Option B:
Pay $180 for parts from a shop at mates rates and do it myself.
SIDE EFFECT: fk up repacking bearing and have to pay $729 for a list of new parts as long as my arm INCLUDING two new rotors and pads from my regular suspension place...

result?

Im $141 ahead then if id gone to Ford and i have an arseload of new suspension/braking components ....

Conclusion?

Dealers are a ripoff!
