Australias first SUPER LAP TIME ATTACK Series

Superlap Australia - Time Attack

================================================== ===

What Is Superlap?
Superlap is a time trial against the clock not unlike a qualifying lap in traditional style motor racing. High Performance vehicles are pushed to the limit in 20 minute timed sessions with the fastest single lap time the eventual winner. Vehicles are broken into two classes, Open Class and Clubsprint Class with each class then split into 8 separate categories. Open class is designed for race derived vehicles and can run on R spec tyres and far less restrictions on modifications. Clubsprint class is designed for street derived vehicles and must run on S type tyres and must retain full street registration, catalytic converters and interior trim.

Whilst it may be new to Australia Superlap or Time Attack type events have a huge following in the UK, USA and New Zealand and particularly Japan where the Rev-speed Superlap event was founded in Tsukuba 18 years ago and is now strictly invitational due to the large number of participants.

When is Superlap?
The first round of Superlap is going to be held on the 5th of July at Oran Park Raceway on the Grand Prix Circuit

The Grand Prix Circuit at Oran Park is Australia’s only figure 8 national circuit! This 2.6km layout incorporates the Yokohama Bridge as well as 12 of the most challenging corners in Australia. One of the best places in Australia to watch Superlap, or any other mortorsport. With a mixture of slow, technical corners and fast sweepers, as well as some exciting changes of height.

The Best Of The Best Shootout
The Best Of The Best Shootout will consist of the 5 fastest cars from each class and put them in a head to head flying lap competition. The winner of each Shootout Class will take home a trophy and prize money. The Shootout will be run as a separate competition and lap times will not be included in the Superlap Competition. All rules & regulations from the Superlap Competition apply to the shootout.

The porkka racers have plenty of events anyway.

May be worth a look if you live near the track

The aussie champion Dave Loftus is driving the BSM R32 GTR in the series, he is a fantastic steerer and will be one to watch. They reckon his GTR will have close to 750hp unrestricted, so it should go well.

Good to see time attack spread, but it's weird that it took this long to reach Australia/New Zealand, considering the distance between it and Japan.

^ i know some of our time attack GTR's were invited to tsukuba so that may have helped get it up and running, i suspect it was mostly organisational/scheduling that delayed it going ahead until now?

From what Ive been told it has been on the cards for a year but the organisers and sponsors wanted a strong series with quality cars competing. If you look at the AMRS series they are lucky to get 10 cars per category.

Usually Oostvoorne, The Netherlands
Kind of a coincidence. About a year ago they did this in The Netherlands for the first time. Multiple people including me went to it and loved it. So under some mild student pressure we got involved in this event. One of our school's prototype racing cars will enter the competition next year. Built by Saker, engineered by students and sponsored by DNRT racing class, this should be a nice attempt. The prototype set a lap record at Lelystad circuit a few weeks ago

We have had this for decades at least here we called them super sprints only think you needed to enter was a helmet and a car and cams Ls it was a single car on the track at all times.
