Pommy HSV

The creation of Vauxhall’s VXR brand was inspired by the outstanding success the company’s VX Racing Team has enjoyed in the British Touring Car Championship over recent seasons. Models under the VXR brand will aim to offer buyers an enticing combination of imposing looks, searing performance, exclusivity and value for money – traits that HSV buyers know only too well.

Vauxhall Chairman, Kevin Wale, is a former Director of Marketing at Holden and was instrumental in arranging the supply chain from HSV’s Clayton manufacturing facility, through Holden and onto Vauxhall.

“This is not a one off arrangement”, said HSV National Sales Manager, Darren Bowler. “The supply of the Monaro VXR is very much an ongoing export partnership between HSV, Holden and Vauxhall”.

With the 2004 quota set at a minimum of 100 vehicles the Monaro VXR is set to be a very exclusive and exciting driving experience for those lucky few. With around 30 vehicles already pre-sold prior to launch – at a RRP of £35,595 – it appears that this world-class high performance V8 rear wheel drive coupe is well on it’s way to conquering yet another market.

The export program is managed through Holden, which also has an arrangement to export Monaros to the UK under the Vauxhall brand.

The program for 300 cars a year was announced in October 2003.

From the HSV website. I only hope the poms can affors the fuel.

Please reserve 'poms' for the English, we're getting it too

At the launch of the 'stock' Monaro at Knockhill they were saying it gets 20mpg mixed ( nearly 30 on best ).

But they're BIGGEST gaff is in the marketing.
They had a hge poster for launch with lots of nice pics etc.
In one they show the instrument binnacle and the fuel guage.
The display is clearly MEANT to read 28MPG.
BUT, someone didn't notice in their mock-up that the decimal point had sneake in (!) and it actually shows 2.8 MPG !!

When I pointed this out to the guys, then next time out on track with the driver he showed it in "real time" and he managed to get it below 1 coming out of the hairpin and up the hill

i thikn theyre just coming with i think its HSV's middle spec brakes which are only about 340mm front, 315 back. as far as i know the AP racing brakes are GTS exclusive because of their racing nature. the 19 inch rims are a couple of steps ahead of the GTO's 17 inchers though, they should provide some noticeable grip advantages as well. Performance figures suggest the VXR/HSV GTO is lineball with the Pontiac GTO despite having 25kw more power, and i think a bit less torque

I read that the only reason the AWD coupe has 270kw is cause hsv cant get around the front with the exhaust till they work that pro out it will be down on power.
But the HSV VXR will have a better suspension set up over the GTO.

well compared to the 285kw engine, the headers have a 3mm smaller diameter (41mm) which harms the flow characteristics, but theres a couple of interesting notes for the Coupe4:

1. because of the AWD hardware, clearance on the front hubs is restricted so the largest current rotors HSV can fit are the 330mm rotors they do fit

2. its not so much the Pontiac GTO headlights on the Coupe4, but the whole car is in fact a US bound shell, fitted back with the RHD firewall, wheel arches modified on a seperate section of the holden production plant, which means it carries the safer fuel tank, allowing a proper duel exhaust (resulting in the quad tips, 2 on each side)

Is that because we couldnt put the fuel tanks in the place the yanks did, But now we can for the VZ models?

our rear crash safety laws arent quite as strict as those of the US, i think theyve had alot of bad cases where a rear impact has lead to the car blowing up. the BA has a forward mounted fuel tank and now that Holden can make the Monaro's with the forward mounted tanks, its only a matter of time before it goes across the range and i wouldnt be too surprised if they dont want to wait for VE to do so. as for why the Coupe4 doesnt take a standard Monaro shell, HSV may have wanted a bit more visual appeal from the quad tips considering its down 15kw power

I seen pics of the new monaro with twim pipes and the forward mounted tank.
Thats been a thing with me its unsafe and always has been the rear tank. Early days some cars looked mean with the big LD tanks but now adays no one sees them no one cares, so forward mounted gets the fingers up from me and it's about time to
