Well you could broaden your horizons there are many gerat races out there like the ones on saturday on prime at 12 they cycle between Nations Cup,GT-P,BRUTES and a power to weight class and Formula 3 and then there is also speed week on sundays on SBS the quality has pulited in recent times but i still have a look the 24 hour race a the nurburg ring was intersting (damn the rule makers for penilising the dodge viper though it still fought to stay in the top 5) and the occasionly and trackside on captial (10) they shopw the little aussie ledgands, historics (marvelous class), Formula ford so as i said look around there are plety out there and many im certain youll like.

i was watching one of the v8 BRutes races a while ago and there was a couple of things i noticed: whenever someone hit someone else they let it slip easier than in the v8 supercars, and, whilst the commo utes, with larger engines, traction control and irs are technically more advanced than the ford utes, the ford utes usually come out better and are rather dominating the series

Well the man who is cirrently winning the series is a professional driver (warren luff whn compared to the country singers adam brant channel 7 wheather man craig denya and retierd racers allan grice and wankers like Handelbars covec its really lacking from position 10 back there are many good drivers in this class but there are a few lemons too allan grice at one stage refused to go out there a couple of times) who is currently comming somthing like 2nd in the mgf trophy and is steven Jhonsons Co driver in the endruos and in his spare time is a advanced driving instructor. The ford also has leaf springs which are eaiser to launch the boss engine has more power better torque and can breathe better too, they have a sliglhty better gearbox though lacking 6th their easier and quicker to shift but also dont forget their are some tracks the holdens are better suited too (i dont know what tracks they are but apprently its true all i usually see is them traling) Buit you are right it is strange they arnt doing very good Brocks son is also a professional racer and both cars have advantges over each other. Oh well there is still a few more races to go well see.

i definately wouldnt have put a live axle, leaf spring setup as a better launching setup over a coul sprung irs system, eilbeit a 25 year old system, although ford have gone to great lengths with their anti-tramp devices, but still, after driving in my dads falcon one tonner, its pretty bumpy without some weight in the back. the xr8 utes may have more power, but its the same story as it is with the sedans: they at least 150kg heavier than the ss utes so they need ot to be competitive. from the couple of races ive seen of the BRutes, the less weight and traction control of the holden utes usually gives them the start but the falcon utes put up a great fight and finish close to the top, even winning

You havent been whatching your drag racing have you? the leaf srpung system is far superior for launching provinding you can launch good it is well proven somone who quick on their feet can launch faster then somthing with traction controll and also irs just doent hook when you try and take off thats why a lot of guys in commadores who are drag racing go to a 9inch with a 4 link rear. ford have manged to make somthing out of very little its superb! Well that tonner more then likly would be set up to take the full tonne so of course she gonna hard ride youll find that like my brothers Au XR8 ute its not boult to take no where near as much weight little over 500 kilos their more show then go as far as a worhorse is considerd the XR series ute are more of a recreational vehical you might say (though you can option them up for trademan spec and shit)

its not just the springs that hold back the XR's, its the tires as well. my dads got a set of series 1 tickford 5 spoke wheels and theyre only rated at about 750kg each, and thats a 17" wheel, i wouldnt be surprised if the 18's held less

and plus, ur brothers xr8 ute is far from a workhorse in XR trim, even as an XLS it wouldn't be a workhorse. theyre both fitted with sports suspension and not intended to carry more than about 500kg, as you said, but they changed that with the au3 and BA, putting the one tonne suspension package on the XLS, and for the BA, they had to beef up the suspension to keep the same payloads with the heavier cars

heres some fun: try going round a large radius, low road quality corner as fast as u can, that'll give the rear suspension some work! make sure its one with a couple of potholes, but unless being in a car whilst the read end's bouncing side to side isnt your kinda thing, dont bother

I was thinking more of burnouts or sideways action on more appropriate roads but what ever floats your boat i guess.

well that was a little scenario my dad described to me when i think i asked him what was so bad about leaf springs, another classic description is just saying "u know those old westerns with the horse drawn carriages bouncing around all over the place? they use leaf springs", but wheels and motor use that one alot. the stuff that floats my boat is going sideways on some prefferably untarred back roads

Well yeah their rough but you get that yo can drop heavy loads on them somthing you cant do on IRS. And aint you a bit young to be hooning around dirt tracks :P you wouldent even have you Ls yet.

no im not on my l's yet, but i know how to drive pretty good though. ive been with my dad on some dirt roads in his old volvo 264 which was pretty good, but the day was ruined when we got stuck behind this looser in this early 90's corolla with all his mates stuffed in the back. id say the biggest disadvantage of carrying weight with irs is the diff lowers with the car, but i cracked myself laughing when i found out the new f150 lighting has irs, from the expedition of all things

Yeah well by the time you can go for your Ls they are bringing in a new legislation that will have you stuck on them by the time your 18 which is way to unfair on younger drivers just because a handful ruin it for the rest of us! Ill be going for my green Ps soon enough and ill be stuck on them fro 24 months which is a crock! yeah but you have to be patient with other drivers (should follow my own advice
) rember everone makes mistakes and has bad days and shit so try to give them the benifit of the doubt Rember youll stuff up too one day.And also a smart driver is a living one that applys to modified cars ( i got given that one the other day when i test drove a genuine SS VH that was fairly warm) and speed costs money how fast you wanna go?IRS just isnt very good in general for carrying loads thats where leafs have them all over though IRS is nicer to drive around in general. I never knew the lightning had IRS though it doesnt suprise me its a sporty model not one you are supposed to be using on a worksite. |

thats complete bullshit what theyre doing with driver training. i heard that they extended the green p's to 3 years again, but i havent checked up on it lately. i guess at this reate, we're never gunna get rid of the dickhead drivers on the roads if this is the governments way of training drivers. they should bring in a law that if u can pass a high performance driving test from something like one of the schools john bowe runs, u can just do ur one year on each set of plates. something like that would encourage people to go out and get higher road education which is what is needed, otherwise theyre stuck for 4-6 years under heavy restrictions, if they're lucky
