First you should write them down correctly, and then try to teach others.

Seems odd that an Italian carmaker would give a car Spanish names; there must be an interesting story behind that decision. Do you know what is? If they're Spanish, they're pronounced guy-yardo and mercy-a-lahgo. Gallardo works just fine in Spanish, but the combination "cie" is very unusual.

I actually do know the story. Ferrucio Lamborghini (I think that's his name) was both a Taurus and a fan of bullfighting. Murcielago is the name of a famous bull that took part in bull fights and instead of fighting to the death, he was spared I believe due to his prowess (I also believe that Murcielago is the Spanish name for a bat - that is what the bull was named). The Gallardo is also another bull related name I think - check wikipedia under those car names for more. Welcome to UCP by the way Didymus.

I believe Scaglietti would be pronounced "Skahg-lee-EHT-ee." The "g" would be very soft, almost silent.

Guillardo is a Spanish name that's pronounced as you would have us say "Gallardo."

idiots

The names below are how the chuffing names are pronounced! P.S, pardon my use of language.

Lamborghini... lamb-bor-ghee-nee

Gallardo... guy-ard-oh

Murcielago... mur-see-el-ag-oh

Countach... coo-n-tash

Porsche... p-oh-r-sh (not p-oh--r-sh-UH)

Maybach... may-bach(german sound for the ch)

Bugatti... boo-gat-ee

Koenigsegg... koo-nig-s-egg

Pagani... pag-an-ee

Citroen... sit-ron

Audi... ow-dee

Renault... ren-oh

Le Mans... le mon

Spyker... spy-kuhr

Acura... ah-cure-ah

Peugeot... pew-g/j(ee)-oh

Trust me this is how they are pronounced! I must say, some of the suggestions(i'm not gonna name names) made are absolutely abominable! for example... what the is a "Ak-rr-ah"???????? or a "pe-jo"???????? a pe-jo??????? Honestly?!

Anyone care to disagree with my suggestions?

you've got maybach, porsche, spyker and citroen wrong, not everything in the world is read english way...

interestingly recently i've found that you read maybach with specifically reading that "ch" - it's certainly not k, funny thing is in english there is no difference between sh and that sound, so i don't know how to write it... it should be like in german "ich" standing for "I". porsche certainly has a long "e" at the end! koenigsegg can't have oo after k, there's standing e for something... it's like long e umlaut sound. second sylab of spyker will be -err, in citroen there are dots above e for the same reason as double dots in naïve

The e in koenigsegg means nothing and you also don't have to hear it!! do you pronounce every letter in every word? so how would you say koenigsegg?.....

ko-en-igs-egg???? it's Swedish anyway, so i think they would use koo instead of ko-en.

oh and kingofthering,

Nurburgring - nooer-booer-ch(the sound you make when you are about to spit)-ing.....it's German so it should be said German.
it is also known as,

Nordschleife - Nord-shh-leaf-eh/uh.

It annoys me the way that the F1 commentators insist on mispronouncing Nürburgring. If they pronounced the "Nür" in Nürburgring the way they probably pronounce the "Nur" in Nuremburg and vice-versa they might be about right. In other words the umlaut modifies the vowel sound so "Nü" is like "new" in English. The "e" in Nuremburg does NOT modify the vowel sound as it would in English, so it's more like "nooremburg".

Incidentally David Coulthard gets it rignt when he mentions the circuit in interviews.
