Cars of the Year - Top Gear Awards 2005

[13 January 2005]

Volkswagon Golf GTI
After a decade of cars almost ashamed to wear the badge, the GTI is well and truly back.

Peugeot 1007
It's funky, it's a Frenchie, it's our Best Small Car of 2004.

Jaguar S-Type D
OK, it's a diesel and an S-Type, but it really is good. No, really.

Vauxhall Monaro
Big, fast and with a V8. Makes you feel proud to be an Aussie.

Ferrari F430
We thought Ferrari couldn't improve on the 360. It has.

BMW M5
It's got a boot, four doors and a V10 - how could the M5 not win Supersaloon of the year?

Aston Martin DB9
The most astonishingly good Aston Martin ever. Shame it'll be bought by Wayne Rooney.

Citroen C4
It's so advanced, it makes Stephen Hawking look stoopid.

Maserati Quattroporte
The thinking man's saloon. Well, except for Berlusconi.

Land Rover Discovery 3
The best SUV in the world takes on its rivals from BMW and Toyota in our Big Test. Expect it to get dirty.

Maserati MC12
After an exclusive blast in Maserati's race-bred rocket, the MC12, Tom Ford reckons it's the perfect car for those wishing to rebel against Ferrari's Enzo. And he wants one.

Articles and details can be found here.

In fact the new Golf GTI is THE Car of the year 2005. Clarkson did a big review on the car.

the new 3 litre twin-turbo is really good.
its only 14kg heavier than the old 3 litre (the one in the 330d and 530d) but has 272bhp and 413lb ft. these figures make it more powerful than bmw's new 3 litre petrol!
its also fully Euro 4 compliant which means none of the usual diesel style downturned exhaust pipes!

Have you driven it? Only then will you truly know if you like it.
