I still think theres something better than the fit. Its too expensive to be a cheap car.

but can you explain why it was better than a number of cars that are still on the 2008 list? The same goes for the Infiniti BTW...are there "new versions" of the cars that were behind in 2007?

They aren't ranked in numerical order...

Both David and I read that and we can't make any sense of it. What exactly do you mean?

The 300C and G35 haven't been updated since last year...

There are alternatives. You have the Scions, the Toyota Yaris, the Chevy Aveo, and the Nissan Versa.

I can't really think of any other small American or German cars.

The Honda Fit is probably the more upscale one of the entry group. Better interior, drive, stuff like that. Not your only choice though.

Ok, keep in mind that I’m massivly biased toward performance/sports cars, and that I do live in America so my driving environment may be different from yours. That said, here’s my list, in no particular order.

1. VW GTi (I’ve driven one, they’re great.)
2. Porsche Cayman S
3. Koenigsegg CCX (Still the most impressive supercar any money will buy.)
4. Corvette Z06 (I have my doubts that the new ZR-1 will be as complete.)
5. Nissan 350Z (Bargain.)
6. Ford Mustang GT (Slightly lesser bargain.)
7. Porsche 911 GT2
8. Ferrari 430 Scuderia (I’ve driven the current MX-5, I think this will be better.)
9. Nissan GTR
10. Aston Martin DBS (I’ve looked at it.)

That doesn't matter. Car and Driver rank their car's in certain catagories. I think the new CTS displaced the 300...

Their criteria also includes it having to be new or at least, updated.

what I meant was:

The Chrysler 300 cam fourth in 2006, in front of a number of other cars.
In 2007 it has disappeared from the top ten, but a number of cars that were behind the 300 are still in the top ten. So what happened? Did the Chrysler go wrong somewhere, or did the others improve? Is that so difficult to grasp? Or did you forget to mention in your starting post that we are talking about 10 different categories?
You also may want to know that in Europe top lists for a year normally only include cars that were new in that specific year, so the same car can only appear once in a top ten or whatever list.
