The only good things to come out of the 80s were me and the beginnings of the internet.

That's fair. I, on the other hand, wouldn't let a transmission decide between a Porsche or Ferrari. The GT3RS is without a doubt the balls to the walls car to be driving around the track, but I'm not really into that sort of driving. I'd enjoy a spirited drive through some mountain twisties on a sunny day a lot more. So, that said, I'd want the Ferrari. If I were to ever even own a track car, I'd probably just buy a Honda S2K and do some work to it. I'd start to feel pretty guilty if I began thrashing anything more high end than that.

Yes, I love the 80's.
That is true, but y'all didn't have the crash saftey and emissions crackdowns right then. Still, little jealous.

I'd still drive the Scud hard, but I'd prefer to have something else a little more crazy for really driving. And something like a GT3RS is still far short of a Caterham Superlight R500 for extremeness.

It's not about the gearbox alone, it's the whole car, and the gearbox is just a manifestation of the car's attitude or engineers' aims.
That said, I wouldn't go even for the GT3RS. I'm not interested atm.
I'd go 599 if I wanted a Ferrari, or a 612 if it wasn't about to be replaced.
If I wanted a Porsche....................StudioTorino RK Coupe, or an old and stock 911 S.

That would be a sweet car for the track. Even a lotus elise isn't a bad option. They aren't profusely expensive either as a preowned vehicle. Can't go wrong with that little Toyota 1.8L.

That may be so, but I could never substitute a Maser in place of a Ferrari, even if it makes more sense. You can live with a 430 everyday as well. Might not offer the same comfort as the Maser, but its so much more beautiful. If and when they make a Spider variant of the Gran Turismo, I might start thinking about it. Don't want to go coupe in either cars though. Gotta smell the flowers .

What is the biggest difference between the transmissions of the 599, 612, and/or F430? Don't the others come F1 most of the time as well? Is it that they are geared differently?

Yeah all of them come in F1 variant generally.
I don't know the technical differences to be honest, even if it's quite obvious the gears are different (very different outputs) and so the montage between V12 and V8 models.
What I meant is that all the F430 models aren't my cup of tea atm.

ohh, ok. Yea, truthfully they weren't mine either because I was head over heels for the 360's smoother lines. It wasn't till the sales rep started talking to me about the timing chain in the F430 that I began tuning in. The car starts to grow on you after a while.

Indeed it does. I think the F430 is a great car that is let down by its owners. You can still get a manual on it, and I believe can turn off most of the driver aids. Combine that with a great chassis and engine and you've got a great car. I feel like I am the only person in the enthusiast camp who believes this, but the 355 and 360 are truly boring cars to look at. Mind you, the 430 is right there with them, but that doesn't detract from my confusion about most enthusiasts' 355 and 360 styling love.
That said, I don't really like the 430 all that much, but I respect it and its design is glacially growing on me.

Convertibles are for pussies and showoffs.

Except for purpose built sportscars.

And I can see the point in cruising relaxedly in a convertible in the countryside.

Convertibles are for people who live in places with decent weather.
As you have appalling taste, you probably do not like the light (mostly British) roadsters of the '50s and '60s, but I think they are sublime. If Ferrari made the spider just as stiff as the coupe without noticeable weight gain, I'm sure it would be a much more pleasurable car to drive. Maybe not as trackable, but at <9/10ths much more enjoyable.

The wind noise is annoying and it's difficult to talk to your passenger. A coupe is also cheaper and looks superior almost universally.

As for the British roadsters, it's a bit odd that so many were made in a country that rains so much.

When you drive fast you don't have time to talk to your passenger. Also you hear the sound clearly and the experience is more intense.
