Electricity is the future of cars - and the near future too, GM released the HYWIRE concpet which is a clear indication of the path the hope to persue

Actually me and my physics teacher had a discussion about this, and it seems that oil won't run out for another 200 years, so there's plenty of it and every day they keep discovering more. so i wouldn't be too worried about it

I agree that we won't run out of oil anytime soon .. but we have to look at the enviromental impact - exhaust fumes, refinery waste ... not to mention the huge negative impact when a tanker spills.

I think a huge benefit to the enviroment would be producing methanol from hemp, I have read that you can extract at least 4 times as much cellulose for hydrogen or gasahol as opposed to cornstalks .... in the '20's and '30's 30-40% of cars ran on methanol (this may be a U.S. only figure).

Whether we are about to run out of oil or not is hardly the concern, it is which of the cleaner alternatives will be available AND accepted by the public, a step in the right direction here, would be to have all government vehicles (municipal straight through to federal) running on an alternative fuel as soon as possible, this would reinforce their commitment to cleaning up the enviroment and get people comfortable with the idea.

hope my views on hemp don't make me out to be a "sandal-wearing tree-hugger" .. I have read a little on the subject and think hemp should make a huge comeback for use in paper and textile manufacturing ... again very enviromentally clean and friendly.

Can't say I really care much for the "It's not going to run out in my lifetime so it's not a problem" attitude.

I personally like the idea of electric cars powered by solar energy, but it's probably a little optimistic to expect to see it happen any time soon.

I've heard a lot said for hydrogen as a fuel source, though I haven't really read a lot about it, but probably will make the effort to do so in the near future.

That'll be public schooling then
He's wrong.

At current consumption we meet the crossover where new oil finds starts to drop within the next decade.
New field production is small compared to those already tapped.

Unless we reduce our rate of growth of consumption it will be gone in 50.

Shell company has had to be honest and publicly lots of managers falling on sowrds over the huge errors they were publishing on gas/oil available. They have re-estimateed and it's WAY down.
