You should seriously think of getting into girls

I suppose nobody would understand it unless you had been in that situation. Theres a point where you have to think .. whats more important, my life and the lives of the people around me or the future of the sports cars. If he werent devout to cars then he wouldve had them crushed and indeed, wouldnt have thought destroying them as "sacralige". The amount of debt that he wouldve been put in wouldve made his life hell and even though it is horrible to see the Birdcage and other exotica destroyed, you have to consider the validity of doing it if you were in his situation.

He could have been a man, accept his losses and sell off the collection.

How? No one wanted to but any of these classic cars at the time.
Not even for a tiny ammount of their pre-bust value.

They had no idea how long it would be untill people started trading again, and they had no idea about the sort of values they would have.

It was worth 1/10th of it's insurance value
IIRC the bottom fell out of the classic car market as he bought all these
At the time a mate bought an e-type for £30,000 then spent another £20,000 having it professionaly restored. Expected to end up with a car worth £80,000. By the time the work was nearing completion you could but conconourse condition E-types for £15,000. To say he was unhappy was an understatement. I *nearly* said "I told you so, cars are for driving and not making concourse as investment", but I didn't

Brocket shoudl have asked Saddam to hide them along with the WMDs

E-types are STILL only going for about £40,000 in concourse !!!
These used to swap hands for 100-150,000 POUNDS !!!!!!!

How could a man, as rich as he may be, stand there, and take apart PRICELESS pieces of automotive history. It's sacriledge. I couldn't even fathom myself causing a rip in ANY ferrari's seat, even a 308's. I think someone should find him, kill him, and cut HIS body up into pieces. No joke.

Everyone has a breaking point. Interesting read. What would the total of those cars be worth today?

Another argument for capital punishment. Dismantaling classic Ferrari's and Masers? Automatic lethal injection sentence.

But I probably would of done the same thing. Fiscal crisis calls for tough stuff. I like to think I would just take it and go broke. You never know.
