Best Classic English Car

The Aston Martin DB6 is definately one of the most exciting classics of all time+ although, all high echelon cars of GB are of considerable style and beauty, say
Lagonda, Armstrong Siddeley, now names that are history.

When I was looking at a Porsche 993, a friend said that I was not the Porsche type but more the Aston Martin.
In fact this is true.

So I opt for the Aston Martin, a brand strong enough to be able to survive.

How about some other brilliant cars, like the (pre-jaguar) Daimlers, the "small" 2.5 litre Conquest Century or the bigger "Regency" models and the later GTI-killer 4.5l V8 Majestic Major (1-60 in 8.5 sec, at 2.5 tonnes!)

What on Earth do you mean by "oh wait... classic uhhh... "?? There are LOTS of classics by Lotus - including possibly one of the best handling road cars ever, the original Elan from the 1960s (as already mentioned). I have one and they are awesome fun. Mine's the +2 variant.

There are just so many to choose from, I want them all! The Triumphs, the Austins, every Jag, an earlier Aston like a DB4, what is it Bond drives in the books...? A supercharged 1930s Bentley I think - that would be fun... Oh oh oh couldn't possibly decide!

I disagree. Lotus Cortina. There's not much Ford left. A body-shell and the core engine block is all that remains standard Ford in that car!

It was a bit of a joke, but I've always known the car as the Ford Lotus Cortina...
I suppose is a bit the same story with the (Vauxhall) Lotus Carlton, or the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus.

Well the Carlton and Sunbeam are much more GM/Chrysler stock than the Cortina was and to my knowledge the Cortina never carried any Ford badging once Lotus had finished with it - because there was hardly anything Ford left. Whereas Lotus breathed on the engine and suspension of the others and that was about it, and they both retained their Vauxhall/Talbot badging and only nodded their head to Lotus with a badge on the boot and some seat trim. (And in the Carlton's case, I think I'm right in saying the result was the Carlton standard engine didn't take too kindly to being hotted up. Pretty delicate and doesn't last many miles without an overhaul!)

The Talbot actually had the 2.2-litre Esprit engine but anyway, if you say so so be it. It's a bit like the case of the ill-fated Citroen Visa Lotus, it was a bit of an Esprit in a Visa body (which resembles the case of the Cortina), yet as opposed to the Ford's case it was still named as a Citroen.
