Knowing what it is... cool!
I'm the new guy or FNG will do. It's good to see that some of you know what a Apollo GT is by IMC (International Motor Cars) or Vetta Ventura. There is not a whole lot of people who do know what one is. So that's a good sign.
![]() Seems like a good forum, I'll contribute to all the existing topics that I can in respects to what a Apollo Gran Turismo can do. I'm just about to take ownership of my fathers 63 Apollo 3500 GT from his estate, It's one of the missing cars that no one ever knew what happened to it. It's #1008. I'll tell ya, my dad was a man's man. He did'nt even discuss buying this car with my mother. He just showed up with it one day. He was the 2nd owner of the car, and purchased it in 1964 or 1965 I believe for $9000.00 just $2000.00 less then they paid for their house a few years earlier. My mom said she almost fainted when he showed up with the car. "You can ride in it, but you CAN'T drive it" he told her. I have over 40 yrs of fond memories with this awsome car, and I could see anyone else owning it but ME. I'm not really sure if I should start a fresh thread or just keep adding to the existing ones about the IMC Apollo since many of you already know what it is......... Thought's anyone |

A good place is probably the Users' Rides section, there you can attach some photos and the like. Welcome to UCP!

I for one (admittedly) don't know much about the car. However, to post photos with our attachment system is as follows: When making a new post, below the text field in the 'Additional Options' section will be a button labeled 'Manage Attachments'. That brings up a second window where you can browse your computer and upload files. Once they load, you're ready to go, the image will show up in your post as an attachment at the bottom once you submit.

63 Apollo
If This car is waht I think it is, it is actually built bu Intermeccancia. IMC would stand for Intermeccanica Carrozinna ( The coach builder in Turin Italy. )
Apollos used basically Buick Engines and running gear and have a faily wide following. I own another Intermmecanica car, a 1971 Italia. This car has a history dating to 1968 and they use Ford running Gear but were assembled in Italy. It has a Ford 351 Cleveland 4v engine, T-010 Trans. Hurst Shifter and Ford 9" rear. |

Welcome Don and Alsantoro. I'll do some more digging in pictures, which is what I can contribute, don't know about people who have them here in Europe.

Yes Frank Reisner at the Intermeccanica Carrozerria factory did build the steel bodies and furnished the hand stiched leather interior of the car, that's why it wears Carrozerria side badges. However, they built them initially for IMC. The VIN plate on the firewall of the car states the Company, the color and the Serial Number. But actually 3 compaines built these cars. International Motor Cars, Apollo International ( still sold under the Apolllo name) and Vanguard who sold them under the name Vetta Ventura. I have the original sales brochure and the original postcard stating that the company moved. Last edited by Dons63ApolloGT; 02-08-2008 at 10:19 AM. |

Yeah, that looks like an interesting car. Can you include some more information so that those who aren't as all knowing can know more about it too? ![]() |

Be glad to.
I'll post all the info that I have. My question is starting a new thread and include all the information available that I have, or add to the existing posts. Here is the article as it 1st appeared in 1962 in the San Francisco Chronicle. Also The 1st time it appeared in a magizine. I still have this edition of Sports Car Graphic,I'm going to have Milt Brown Sign this one when I meet him this March to document the car since this is one of the earliest coupes made and has many of the early features changed in later years. |
