I think you've got the wrong take on this collection. I get the sentiment that the chap or chapess collected british (in the main) cars that no one wanted back when they would have been crushed and basically saved them for posterity. But, as his collection grew he couldn't bear to part with a single item.

Collecting is a well known disease, whether it be cars, stamps or whatever, and once it bites there is no stopping it. I take the view here that there are a considerable number of cars and parts now perhaps for sale that otherwise would have been melted down to make Detroit iron. I often wonder whether I'll sell my cars as I get older but then I think of Walter Hill and his fabulous collection of Jaguars in Florida. Written on the beam over the collection was the following:-

THEIR SWEET LINES ALL BUT TAKE MY BREATH AWAY,
AND I DESIRE THEM AS MUCH FOR THEIR BEAUTY AS THEIR USE

To me that says it all. I may one day get old and no longer be able to drive, but I can still open the garage door and grin.

Is that an XKE hardtop sitting on top of the Jaguar hood?

going through some of the pics, i think it looks worse than it actually is. sure, they're not going to be driveable, and rats have probably had their way with the upholstery, but quite a lot of them look to be pretty solid, panels and chassis wise.
a lot of these could be restored imo, easier than you might think, i don't think many of them are truly lost causes.
the spare parts in particular look like they could be reconditioned very easily.

edit: ah okay, most of the ones outside seem to pretty shot. what's the orange thing with the rollcage?

Orange thing might be a Ford Consul Capri?

either way, there doesn't look like a whole lot that would be cost effective to fix here. a shame

I don't know if the orange is, but the light blue one most definitely.

I like the stack of Spitfire hoods...

Considering the nature of this collection, I doubt this collection belonged to someone who didn't really care about cars. If that was the case, why all the parts and tools? There are a lot of reasons why a collection could've ended up this way (death, old age, foreclosure, someone bought the property and didn't care about cars, etc.) It's just too bad nobody else knew these cars were in there. There are a lot of people (myself included!) that would've been happy to rescue some of these, especially that little Healey!

Does anybody remember that barn in Portugal a few years ago that had all those cars inside? I always love seeing these collections turn up. Better found after a period of neglect than not found at all.

Agre it looks like someone saved them from the scrappie rather than "collected" them.
he beauty of Calif Briotish cars is they only have surface rust and with so many British cars not having replacmeent panels available then these can and no doubt will be put to good use at some time.
In the UK the Ford Corsair ( Mk2 Cortina with a pointy nose ) is a perfect example.
THere are NO front wings available and due to the shapes then it's not economical to restore. SO you don't see any of them around at all now. If only we'd had nice dry weather then a good chance our local yards woudl have had plenty of corsair's to canibalise.

I never complain about any of these types of things when you consider the alternatives ... ie lost for ever by crishing

i dunno. i'd have a go at some of them, there's a few there where anyone with a dash of knowledge and skill could fix up, imo. i reckon i could do a few but i'm functionally retarded.
hell one of my mini's was in worse shape than some of these and it's running now
