what does RS mean?

for the Porsche 996 GT3 RS, what does the RS stand for.
i know the second "R" in RSR is racing but what does the RS mean?

RS in the Audi term stands for Renn Sport......dunno about Porsche though,....

As far as I know the Porsche RS stands for RennSport too

When Ford uses it its Rally Sport. Isn't it the same for Porsche?

i don't know about the porshe rs but the rs for Ford stands for rallye sport i think?

RS means :

Rally Sport (Chevrolet Camaro)
Rallye Sport (Ford Motor Company; Europe)
Roadside (vehicle design)
