My first M5 viewing was one stopped on the motorway by a policeman...I wonder what for
But I saw my first one up close yesterday, drove past me as I came to cross the road... but saw it again when I was coming home, again on the main road. If I time it right, I may see it everyday!!

QM, almost all high performance cars, especially those which have more horsepower than their engine size, need resting time just like we need sleep

Saw an M5 but twin turbo Surpa drag race in the night on the streets, was a very quick thing with hardly anyone around, but the street is VERY notorious for getting all types of supercars on it, and it's very near me

Also saw one yesterday, black body, black rims, black tint, kick-ass

All cars have a break in period that is usually around 1000 miles (1600 km). If you dont break in your engine properly then you may have to suffer the consequences later.

It may be unnecessary to follow that procedure (for the M5 or any other car) - read this through and re-consider your thinking - it may seem like a load of bull at first, but if you read through, what he's saying is quite logical: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Interesting, never really saw it from that point of view. Problem is, I don't own a new car and probably won't for a while.

Same here, I don't know if I'd ever buy a new car actually. But it does make a lot of sense, especially about changing the oil very early on in the cycle. After reading through the whole article it sounds right to me.

You're a car dealer and you don't recommend break-in periods on the cars you sell? You're doing a great disservice to your customers. Maybe you should go read the owner's manual on of them there Audis you sell.

Nice to see you back Matt, but if im going to spend 86K for a super car,I should not have low limitations like the M5 has, don't get me wrong I like M5's,but no come on!no full Up to 1200miles/2000km/h NO full-throttle.What kind of crap is that?!R6 doesn't have low limitations like that.

The RS6 doesn't have a break-in period? Bullshit. This is only 1200 miles, for crying out loud. They're not talking about limiting your driving of the car for its whole life. You're trying to choose some pedantic little aspect of the ownership of a car from a company that is in direct competition with your fanboyness and dumping all over it.

i'd prob still break-in my car for 2000km even if it doesn't say on the manual.. it's only 2000km.. that takes no time at all... if it doesn't do anything, i won't be at any loss, however if i dun break-in at all.. i mite damage the engine...
i believe turbo cars break-in periods are even more important.... at least the EVO's break-in period is extremely important.. it burns engine oil like crazy if not broken-in properly in some magazine i read.. road&track i think it was..

According to Ferrari

Hop in and drive it like you stole it = Very fast engine that eats lots of oil

Slow break in = Slow engine with gaps in the power band that doesn't use any oil

Gererally easy with a few quick bits when not too loaded = good seal and smooth power band.
