New Opel Insignia

From autoblog.
Quote:
The folks at AutoWeek.nl decided to take the wind out of Opel's sails by posting images of the new Insignia before it released official information later this week. We've seen the basic shape and several details of the Insignia when Opel sent out "official" spy shots of their new D-segment player (think Mondeo, Passat), but these newest pictures tell the whole tale, sans artful camouflage.

Due to hit dealers in Europe this October, the Insignia will replace the Vectra and come equipped with a handful of diesel- and gasoline-powered engines, ranging in displacement from 1.6- to 2.8-liters. Both 1.6-liter and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engines will be equipped in the entry level models, with a 250 hp, 2.8-liter V6 powering the range-topper. Diesel mills packing 1.9-liters of displacement and outputting 120 to 150 hp will also be offered, and there's also talk of a 180 hp, 1.9-liter turbo and a 2.9-liter V6 diesel.

The Insignia is relevant to those of us in the States since it will likely replace the Saturn Aura in the next few years. The styling is a slight step above Saturn's current sedan, with an attractive front clip and a rather dynamic swage line that begins aft of the front fender and runs parallel with the rocker panels.

The Opel Insignia will be publicly debuted at the London Motor Show this July and we should see a Saturn variant making its way to the U.S. sometime around the turn of the decade.
I have to say I like it. Especially the exterior.

I was gonna say it does look quite similar to the Aura. This could easily be its successor though Saturn has the bad habit of putting ugly tail lights on everything..

Wow, I really like it.
If the upcoming Astra looks that nice as well, Opel will probably get a lot of new customers.
The Insignia is one of the most beautiful sedan's at the moment in my opinion.

While it's not as dynamic as say, the Mondeo. It's going to age better.

A solid effort, but hardly exciting.

A nice effort towards the 2nd hand family car section.

Cant help but agree. Im really trying to put any negativity I have for the current model aside and judge this car on its merit. I dont like the interior looks however and I just get the sense this car has to be more than just "good enough" to improve. Its going to have to be more than good value, well speccified and better than the last model with cars like the mondeo chasing down the A4/Cc/3s in some departments. If this car continues to use HCCI I will admire it by engine technology at least.

I don't know if it was a delibrate attempt but the car to me looks American.

perhaps a nod to the more world-focused efforts Opel are having in regards to Saturn? They'll likely sell more Aura's than Insignia's anyway.

But considering they started from a generally well received, intimidating and original concept vehicle, and ended up with Genero-barge, it's quite disappointing.

i think it looks pretty concept-car ish for a production model. i dont think it will be able to compete with the likes of the a4 and its other competitors though

Hum.. so so, i don't really like the exterior, it looks chuby, fat, ilike the "old" one, it was a solid looking car and the GTS was really good looking, on the other hand the inside is a huge step forward from the last one, very good, they should put this interior on the old one.

oops..I think I don't quite understand it. Maybe just yet, but still I'll have to agree with drakkie and say that it's an extremely boring car. A bad step for those who produce Corsa.

Stop looking at me! Look at me! Stop looking at me!
Ahhhh, it took me half-way through the article to realize you didn't mean that Opel was changing their badge.
