Quote:
SHARE THE DREAM OF DRIVING MT PANORAMA

Pick your team for the 6-Hour Mountain Relay.

If you’ve ever wanted to compete at the world famous Mt Panorama circuit here’s the chance of a lifetime. The Festival of Sporting Cars, who re-introduced club level motor sport to Bathurst at Easter 2008, invites you and your club to participate in the first ever 6-Hour Mountain Relay on 5 & 6 April 2010.

You don’t need a Supercar or pots of money.

This CAMS sanctioned regularity event is open to everyone with a road (or club) registered or log-booked car. So it’s ideal for drivers who may have competed in supersprints or rallies and want to live the dream of running at the Mountain in the company of their mates and fellow club members. As a team event, not only the costs and driving can be shared, but also the excitement and camaraderie. Teams may comprise from 4 to 6 cars and drivers, and points will be awarded for consistency in recorded lap times. Remember, this is not a race and we don’t give out trophies – it’s all about keeping a cool head while having fun.

The buzz without the pressure.

The event will commence with driver briefings, course familiarisation and practice on Monday, with an hour’s lunch-break in the middle. On Tuesday, there will be a 6-hour team relay, split into two 3-hour stints. If your car is precious, or you’re daunted by the circuit, there’s no need to be nervous, we put safety first. You’ll receive training from The Masters – a team of well-known racing drivers with over 100 Bathurst endurance races to their names – who’ll help ensure that you don’t get out of your depth. You should be able to drive your car there, compete in it and drive home.

Get in now to ensure a place.

Numbers will be restricted to ensure that everyone has optimum access to resources like The Masters and there is no overcrowding on the track, so places will fill up fast. Given the interest we’ve already received, we urge you to get in early with an Expression of Interest. You’ll find the online EOI form, plus entry details and costs, at our website FoSC Home Page or you can contact Event Director Charles Jardine charles@fosc.com.au or (02) 9907 0136. Clubs are welcome to hire corporate suites for viewing and entertaining members, families and guests. Also, we may be able to arrange a Concours, displays or parade laps, if there is sufficient demand.

I stress again if you want to enter a team get in quick and send off a EOI ASAP

Cheers
John

New Tires for next season as well.
The Canadian Formula 1200 Championship will have a new tire choice for next season. Since are Spec Khumo tires are not being made anymore, we are in the process on selecting a new tire. So for driver to comply with the rules. Drivers who want to be included in top 10 for points/ fight for the championship must run the new tires. Right now are new tire choice is the Falken Aznes. Its a much harder compound then the Khumo's, but a much deeper tread which will be better for wet races. Some of the drivers have discussed getting 2 sets as one for dry and one for the wet. Cost is the major concern since were trying to keep the series as low budget as possible.
Here is a pic of the new Falken Tire
The Formula 1200 Championship had a very eventful season. Racing in Shannonville, Mosport International Raceway and Calabogie, 23 Drivers competed with us in the 2009 season. We saw a mix of sunshine, rain, fog, wind, and one this season even hail. It was not only a dramatic but yet another close season.
Michael Iamundi dominated season, winning eleven races, with a couple of mechanical problems. Michael Iamundi won the 2009 season with a tight finish in the drivers points yet again. Andrew McMurrary was a podium regular and top 5 finisher. Andrew took some amazing onboard video footage as well, showing drivers how it is import to draft and finished the season in second place. Eric Barret was the new 2009 Vallis Cup winner for this year, also winning 4 of the 18 races of the season Eric Barret finished the season on a high note with third overall.
TLM Racing driver Keenan Harris will be the 2009 Rookie of the Year. Coming into Formula 1200 after karting Keenan has performed outstanding, fourth overall was his overall standing. Phil Wang had a few podium spots, joining team-mate Michael Iamundi in Calabogie, and Vallis Cup weekend, fifth overall the season. Sergio Pasian was another Rookie who did a good job through the season with podiums and regular top five finishes. Sergio Pasion was sixth overall in is first racing season for Formula 1200
Robert Tronchi had a tough year, but did a good job trying to battle it out for top five finishes. Unfortunately Robert was sick the last weekend and couldn’t make it for the final race weekend. Robert Trochi was seventh overall. Bill Mitchell did an outstanding job with racing again this season with his newly developed BRD car. One of the longest running drivers in the sport Bill managed a respectable eight overall. Andre Bonaldo the third rookie for this season was 9th overall. Coming from karting as well, he quickly moved up the Formula 1200 grid. Taylor Near of TLM racing finished off the top ten in points. Having a few scary moments he still was managed to come back in finish the season in tenth.
Carlo Triolo was another rookie of TLM racing and Formula 1200. Having close battles with Kyle Kosir and Eugene Cartini he managed a respectable eleventh overall. Michael Rogers was a part of the action this season a couple of podium sports put him twelfth this season. Eugene Cartini beat out his team-mate Kyle Kosir in the final race of the season for thirteenth overall. Aaron McCaulley learned a lot in his first year of Formula 1200. The Sixth rookie on the grid, he finished fourteenth this season.
Rookie drivers Kyle Kosir and Scott Laporte both finished the season in fifteenth and sixteenth spot. Tony Thorton came back to race Formula 1200 and with all the tough luck he finished seventeenth overall. Sam Mandia was back this year the oldest driver on the grid. Dave Aird had his fun with a brand new chassis both finishing off the grid with eighteenth and nineteenth overall.
The kid went on to say that his contract comes into effect in two years when he is 18. His name was supposedly Brandon Brown from California, whomever the hell that is???

The kid all of a sudden had a friend barge into our conversation as well and reaffirm this.

Now I am no dolt. I did quiz the kid on a few things and he seemed to get them somewhat correct.

Is there any news out there to give this child credit or is this just some fantasizing pubescent child who just got his driving license and thinks he now drives in F1, meanwhile he is actually driving on the M1 in a Fiat Multipla.

They haven't flelded such a car since the 512.
Sure, they have the 430 in GT2, but that's a roadcar class. F1? Limited appeal that does not directly relate to the publicly sold road cars. F1 is dead in the states also.
I heard possible Ferrari participation in the Rolex DP series.
Any thoughts?

The FIA GT Championship as we know it will end this weekend at the Belgian track Zolder. After 13 seasons, it will be replaced from 2010 by the GT1 World Championship and the GT2 European Championship. With both championships still up for grasps, it promises to be another classic event. Among the supporting events is the GT3 championship for which Zolder also serves as the last round of the season.

We will be at Zolder to capture the final FIA GT race.

Official preview:

Quote:

 The end of a season, the end of an era. Once again, the Belgian circuit of Zolder, 4 km long, technical and challenging, will be the scene of the grand finale of the FIA GT Championship. With both the GT1 and GT2 drivers titles open, there is plenty to play for around the 4 km circuit, and the two-hour race is sure to see emotions running high.

This will be the sixth visit of the FIA GT Championship to Zolder, which welcomed the teams and drivers in three consecutive years between 1999 and 2001, before returning to the calendar in 2007. That year also saw the finale take place at the track, with Thomas Biagi claiming the crown in his Vitaphone Maserati MC 12. Will 2009 see a similar outcome ?

It seems quite likely; after seven rounds, Bartels and Bertolini have a four-point lead over their near rivals Kumpen and Hezemans. Their nr 1 Maserati MC 12 will also be relatively light, with only 40 kg success ballast. The nr 4 Pekaracing Corvette Z06 of their rivals will have 60 kg, further to their non-finish at the Paul Ricard HTTT, further to engine problems. Should the two pairs of drivers finish on equal points after Zolder, an interesting exercise could take place, as until Paul Ricard they were perfectly matched in terms of both points and finishing positions. The regulations state that the best laps of both cars over the season would then be examined… For Bartels and Bertolini, whose Vitaphone Racing Team secured a historic fifth GT1 Teams title at the previous round, victory would mean a third title together – also an unmatched performance. As for Kumpen and Hezemans, it would be a first title win for both – and also a first for Corvette, Belgium and the Netherlands. Hezemans holds most of the Championship records, in terms of number of races contested, number of podiums and number of poles. As for Bertolini, he has scored more points than any other driver in the Championship. An interesting battle ahead.

An equally thrilling debate is in place for third position, with SRT’s crew of Longin and Ruffier currently holding a five-point lead over Luc Alphand Aventure’s Xavier Maassen. With a win and a third place in the last two races, the crew of the nr 3 Corvette have been on a charge in the latter part of the season; the points, however, also bring weight, and the car now has 60 kg to carry. As for the nr 19 Corvette, it is without weight, and the duo of Maassen and Biagi will be keen to regain the advantage.

As well as those in contention for the overall 2009 FIA GT Championship podium, there are plenty of others who will be aiming to finish the season on a high point. Vitaphone Racing Team’s nr 2 car, driven by Alex Müller and Miguel Ramos, has made up for an unlucky middle section of the season, finishing third in Algarve and second in Paul Ricard. Victory in Zolder would complete the set, allowing Ramos to claim a third win and Müller a first – which would be a good reward for the man who has been the fastest man in qualifying this season, with three poles. The nr 33 Vitaphone Racing Team DHL Maserati started its career with second in the Total 24 Hours of Spa, and the crew of Pier Guidi and Bobbi would love to finish with a win. As for Sangari Team Brazil, they claimed a resounding victory for the first Brazilian team in the FIA GT Championship in France, and are definitely on a high at the end of this season.

Zolder should also see the return of the Saleen cars. Victorious in Silverstone, it would be good to see another victory from the cars, which have been competing in the FIA GT Championship since 2003.

After Zolder, all eyes will be turning to 2010 …and to get a first taste of the competition, the Nissan GT-R will be back in action at Zolder, after finishing a fine third in the GT1 category of the Total 24 Hours of Spa . The car’s main rival is the Marc VDS Racing Ford GT, the Belgian team having worked steadily on their car at all rounds this year, finishing in the points on four occasions. The Nissan finished third in GT1 at the Total 24 Hours of Spa…

Moving on to GT2, the competition is just as fierce, with a very similar situation as in GT1. Toni Vilander and Gianmaria Bruni, whose team AF Corse secured the GT2 Teams Championship at the Paul Ricard, have been in a close battle all season with the Prospeed Competition duo of Emmanuel Collard and Richard Westbrook. As in GT1, the reigning Champions are up against a pair of drivers who have never won the title… and Collard, like Hezemans, has been competing in the Championship since the very first season in 1997.

The Prospeed Porsche has claimed three victories and two second places this season; similarly, Bruni and Vilander have claimed three wins, two second places and a sixth-place finish in Portugal… and it is these three points which currently give them a slender advantage coming into the final round. Both will be carrying a total of 100 kg penalty weight. So who will be victorious in Zolder ? Can Prospeed continue with the form that saw them win the 24 Hours of Zolder earlier this year ? It should be an interesting fight…

In joint third, AF Corse’s second crew, the nr 51 car pairing of Alvaro Barba Lopez and Niki Cadei. With a victory in the Algarve and third in Paul Ricard, the GT2 rookies have had an excellent season, and are determined to hold on to their current third place. Their rivals for this position are Luis Perez Companc, who shares the nr 95 Pecom Racing Team Ferrari with Matias Russo, and the CRS Racing duo of Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell, who are the only GT2 line-up to have scored at every since race this season !

The GT2 category has shown remarkable consistency this season, and in the last two races, the same eight cars have finished in the top eight positions – an astonishing result.

This is the FIA GT Championship’s sixth visit to Zolder. The first three years saw victory go to the Chrysler Viper GTS-R, while the Aston Martin DBR9 and Maserati MC 12 won in 2007 and 2008 respectively. In the GT2 class, Porsche wins in 2000 and 2001 were followed by two Ferrari wins in 2007 and 2008.

If the 2008 results were replicated in 2009, both Bartels/Bertolini and Vilander/Bruni, who claimed wins in Belgium last year, would leave with the ultimate trophies.

But until then, anything can happen…

A couple of us crazy model car guys are wanting to correct the Exoto 1/18 scale diecast model (they basically just repainted the Sunoco car into the red & white Cam2 car). Just for our modeling purposes, not for any publishing purposes or manufacturer's benefit.
According to information appearing in today’s Journal du Dimanche, Flavio Briatore has confirmed that tomorrow he will commence proceedings in the Paris Tribunal de Grande Instance (High Court) challenging the decision announced by the FIA World Motor Sport Council on 21st September 2009.

The principal grounds for this action are:

The FIA’s deliberate breach of the rights of the defence FIA including
· the delay in the issue of the summons;
· the failure to state the charges in advance;
· the lack of access provided to prosecution documents and to the key witness;

Breach of the rules of natural justice including
· the lack of impartiality of the body passing judgment;
· the secret negotiation of the decision content before the hearing; and
· the granting of selective immunities in order to build the prosecution’s case;

The FIA’s manifest excess and abuse of power including
· the penalty imposed on a non-licensee of the FIA;
· the disproportionate and illegal nature of an indefinite boycott decision; and
· the threat to refuse to renew the FIA licence in breach of the Federation’s regulations and of the International Sporting Code.

Flavio Briatore intends to obtain an Order from the Court quashing the FIA’s decision insofar as it
relates to him, together with an Order, subject to a penalty for non-compliance, requiring the
Federation to withdraw any penalty imposed on him. He is also seeking damages and official
publication of the court’s decision.

Flavio Briatore commented that “In this case, the FIA has been used as a tool to exact vengeance on
behalf of one man. This decision is a legal absurdity and I have every confidence that the French
courts will resolve the matter justly and impartially”.

The latest incarnation of what used to be Team Lotus, has revealed next year's F1 contender

Let me comment beforehand, that this team Lotus has no affiliation with the historic team. Today's owners, a partnership between the Malaysian Government and a consortium of Malaysian entrepreneurs, have just bought the brand name from its previous owner.

Most of the members would have already seen the photos

Lotus F1 Car Photo

The reason I am posting this is for the design of the rear wishbones. The wishbones are mounted in such a way, that the wheelbase will be different as the suspension moves up/down.

Has this happened in any other F1 cars in the past?

One point from either Button or Barrichello is enough to clinch the constructor's cup for Brawn.

After complaining about a backache, Timo Glock was found to have one of his vertebrae damaged in the head-on shunt at Suzuka. He will be replaced by Kamui Kobayashi, who also substituted for the German in the Friday practice sessions at Suzuka.

The anti-clockwise Sao Paolo track is always a challenge for the drivers. The rough surface and ever changing weather adds to the difficulty of the race. The outcome is not rarely surprising.

The schedule is in local time:

FRI Practice 1 10:00
FRI Practice 2 14:00
SAT Practice 11:00
SAT Qualifying 14:00
SUN Race 14:00
