Welcome to Fiesta S2000

The Fiesta S2000, M-Sport and Ford's first global rally car, which will be eligible to compete in national rally championships around the world as well as the IRC and S2000 World Cup, is due for homologation in January 2010.

Continuing their close relationship with Ford, the team at M-Sport has worked in tandem with Ford's Motorsport Technical Manager Mike Norton and the Ford small car design team that developed the acclaimed kinetic design of the Fiesta road car, to develop a dynamic and aggressive looking rally car.

The experience gained from developing the record-breaking Ford Focus RS WRC has been used by the M-Sport team to develop the Fiesta S2000 rally car while working within the new FIA Sporting Regulations which means that this car can be used by customers at both national and international level.

The Fiesta S2000 is the latest in a long line of rally cars produced as a result of the successful partnership between M-Sport and Ford, starting with the Escort Cosworth in the 1990s and moving on to the record breaking Ford Focus RS WRC and Ford Fiesta ST.

It follows hot on the heels of M-Sport's extremely successful two wheel drive Fiesta R2, which was launched earlier this year and has already taken class victories in rallies across Europe.

The arrival of the Fiesta S2000 means that together Ford and M-Sport offer a complete ladder of opportunity for rally competitors to graduate with Ford from national level right through to the WRC in Ford cars.

Arash AF-10 website intro MetA: MANY images in med-res especially the car "explosion" is neat ( am trying to get in hi-res )

Arash Sportscars was born out of the passion for cars, the enchantment of beauty and the thrill of driving the seemingly endless acceleration of a thoroughbred engine.
The engine or shall we say the soul of the car is designed to withstand the punishment of motor racing, and we're sure will excite even the most accomplished driver.
The superlative handling of a chassis designed by leaders in theor field, and braking performance so forceful you question whether the tyres will still be intact when you climb out.
And whether you're approaching or leaving a silhouette that seduces and excites.
From a dream to concept, and from concept to reality, Arash Sportscars no longer exists as a dream, it is a reality.

History

Arash Cars was established in March 2006 and has been working on the AF10 ever since.
The styling drawings were made in March 2005 by Arash Farboud Designs and have since been converted into computer models and aerodynamic cfd mesh models.
The company is located in Sawston on the outskirts of Cambridge. Most testing will be conducted at Millbrooke proving grounds 20 miles away from the company. The facility in Sawston Cambridge is equipped with a styling studio, painting booth, carbon lamination room, parts despatch area, carbon curing autoclave oven and polished epoxy floored car assembly stations. A board room and administration offices are also located at the site.
Arash Cars have designed a traditionally shaped badge with an eagle emblem. The background colour is solid black and the foreground eagle is in gold. The 'Arash' emblem is in flame orange.

In 1962 Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov initiated a program to produce a lightweight version based on a prototype that mirrored the new 1963 Corvette. Concerned about Ford and what they were doing with the Shelby Cobra, Duntov's program included plans to build 125 Grand Sport Corvettes to make them eligible for international Grand Touring races. After the GM executives learned of the secret project, the program was stopped, and only five cars were built. All five cars have survived and are in private collections. They are among the most coveted and valuable Corvettes ever built, not because of what they accomplished, but because of what might have been.

The cars were driven by famed contemporary race drivers such as Roger Penske, A.J. Foyt, Jim Hall, and Dick Guldstrand among others. The Grand Sports, however, were never fully developed; poor aerodynamics caused high speed handling problems that were alleviated by a number of modifications but never completely solved. Dick Thompson was the first driver to win a race in the Grand Sport 004. He won a 1963 Sports Car Club of America race at Watkins Glen on August 24, 1963.

The Corvette Grand Sports were raced with several different engines, but the most serious factory engine actually used was a 377 cubic inch displacement, all-aluminum, small block with four Weber side-draft carburetors, rated 550 hp (410 kW) at 6400 rpm. Body panels were made of thinner fiberglass to reduce weight and the frame was constructed of amazingly light steel tubes.

Most successful Kapitän model in Opel’s history turns 50

Current Opel flagship Insignia taking an equally successful course since market launch

Rüsselsheim. In the fall of 1959, the new Opel Kapitän (known internally as the Kapitän P2 2.6-liter) rolled off the production line in Rüsselsheim for the first time. Thanks to its distinctive design, high comfort and state-of-the-art technology, it soon became a bestseller. A total of 145,616 units were sold up to 1964, making the P2 2.6-liter the most successful Kapitän ever. Fifty years after its market launch, the new top model from Rüsselsheim, the Opel Insignia, is repeating history. After less than 12 months on the market, over 150,000 drivers already call the innovative car their own. Five decades of progress in automotive development separate the two models, but both – each at their own time – play a groundbreaking role for the brand with the distinctive lightning-bolt emblem.

Opel Kapitän P2 2.6-liter – “More value for less money”

While the first post-war Kapitän was still strongly influenced by American aesthetics, the second generation as of fall 1959 was distinguished by its own unique appearance and more European design. “The sweeping lines and softly flowing transitions are now replaced by a firm emphasis on the horizontal and the effect of pronounced contours,” explains a contemporary text. The bodywork became more rigid and straight lines “stretched” the car – an effect that was enhanced by the particularly flat roof. Opel increased driver vision by installing a wider panorama windscreen that projected more deeply into the roof, and improved access for rear-seat passengers by making some slight design changes to the roof edges.

The Kapitän’s 2.6-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine delivered 66 kW/90 hp and maximum torque of 190 Newton meters between 1,300 and 2,500 revs. The experts were particularly impressed by its smooth running characteristics – the result of a new engine mounting that ensured maximum noise insulation and improved vibration damping. Technical features such as the “actuation aid” for the clutch pedal were followed in the subsequent years by innovations such as “Hydra-Matic” automatic transmission and power steering. Thus, in terms of both technology and comfort, the Kapitän set standards for automobile production at the time. Despite this, Opel refrained from increasing the price compared with the predecessor model, which also contributed to the sales success.

Here are the first official pictures of the all-new Volvo S60 - sportier and more dynamic than any previous Volvo model.

"The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before and the car's technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel," says Stephen Odell, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.

The Volvo S60 can be equipped with Pedestrian Detection - a groundbreaking safety feature that can detect pedestrians in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time.

The all-new Volvo S60 is being unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March next year. Production of the sporty sedan model will start in early summer 2010 at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.

"Customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all. We are convinced that it will be one of the strongest contenders around," says Stephen Odell.

UNCOMPROMISING CLASSIC: GM’S E-ROD ’55 INTRODUCES NEW, EMISSIONS-COMPLIANT CRATE ENGINE PACKAGE

LAS VEGAS – Vintage style complements modern performance, efficiency and emissions standards in GM Performance Parts’ ground breaking E-ROD – a ’55 Chevy powered by the innovative, new E-ROD crate engine package. It includes a complete LS3 engine, emissions equipment and supporting components that enable classic cars to pass California’s stringent smog tests.

GM Performance Parts (GMPP) introduced the E-ROD concept vehicle at the 2009 SEMA Show, in Las Vegas. The E-ROD crate engine package will be available on the opening day of the 2009 SEMA Show through GM dealers, authorized GMPP retailers and via the GMPP Web site, GM Performance Parts | High Performance Crate Engines & Engine Parts. List price for the LS3 E-ROD package is $9,375.

“E-ROD represents a revolution in hot rodding by offering an unprecedented, emissions-legal engine and emissions system that carries approval from the influential California Air Resources Board (CARB),” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, product marketing manager for GM Performance Parts. “We developed this system because it’s the right thing to do, but our engineers did not sacrifice the performance that stirs hot rodders in the first place. It is a compromise-free package that delivers great power and efficiency, with the emissions of a modern vehicle.”

The core of the E-ROD package is the LS3 6.2L V-8 engine that is rated at 430 horsepower. Emissions equipment included with the package includes catalytic converters, a fuel tank evaporative emissions canister and more. GMPP worked closely with CARB and SEMA officials to develop the kit and secured approval that makes E-ROD-equipped vehicles legal in California and other areas that follow CARB’s recommendations and emissions standards. No other O.E.M. or aftermarket manufacturer offers a comparable, CARB-approved system.

“With the E-ROD system, you’re getting 160 percent more horsepower than the original small-block V-8 offered in 1955, but with emissions performance and efficiency that wasn’t even dreamt of half a century ago,” said Meyer. “This is how modern hot rods will be built. They’ll have the efficiency of a modern GM high-performance vehicle, be environmentally conscious and emissions-compliant – all while providing the owner with a smaller carbon footprint.”

The E-ROD system components

The E-ROD kit carries part number 19244805 and includes the same, basic LS3 engine that’s found in the Camaro SS and Corvette (additional engine choices, including the LS7 and LSA, are planned for future packages). Standard elements of the kit include:

6.2-liter LS3 crate engine, rated at 430 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque
GMPP LS3 engine wiring harness
GMPP engine control module
Exhaust manifolds
Catalytic converters
Oxygen sensors and sensor bosses
Fuel tank evaporative emissions canister
Mass airflow sensor and sensor boss
Accelerator pedal (for use with the LS3’s electronic throttle)
Air filter
Instruction manual
In addition to the E-ROD system, the builder will need to source additional components to complete the assembly and get the vehicle running. They include:

Fuel tank
Fuel lines (re-circulating or returnless)
Fuel pump
Fuel tank vent line from the tank to the evaporative emissions canister
Pure line from the canister to the engine purge solenoid
Air induction system that incorporates the mass airflow sensor
Exhaust system behind the catalytic converters
Additionally, the LS3 engine requires a front-end accessory drive system that is suitable to the vehicle. The instruction manual includes recommendations for the accessory drive kit, as well as the transmission, gear ratios and more.

The E-ROD kit does not include a transmission. GMPP recommends the GM Hydra-Matic electronically controlled 4L60-E four-speed automatic, part number 19156260, and transmission controller, part number 12497316.

The E-ROD ’55

GMPP’s proof of concept for the E-ROD package is the E-ROD ’55, which was built to illustrate a typical installation project. Importantly, it represents an attainable level of construction, blending basic restoration and modification details.

“It is a simple, clean and straightforward approach to building a ’55 Chevy,” said designer Dave Ross. “There are not many custom features that required labor-intensive fabrication; our goal was to depict how the E-ROD system could be incorporated in any classic vehicle, whether it’s a ’55 Chevy, street rod or ’69 Camaro.”

The exterior wears factory-style chrome Bel Air trim, which accents the custom PPG colors applied by GM. On the inside, the E-ROD ’55 has an original-style appearance, with upholstery and other restoration items supplied by CARS Inc. The only noticeable variances include an IDIDIT adjustable steering column and Grand steering wheel.

Also keeping with the elemental aesthetic of the car, the wheels selected weren’t expensive, billet-cut rims, but the simple, 18-inch steel wheels from the base Camaro. They’re trimmed with bright trim rings, lug nuts and center caps. They’re distinctive yet inexpensive.

“In many respects, this is a practical hot rod,” said Ross. “The attention to detail would make any rodder proud, but there’s nothing about this car that would prevent you from jumping in for a cross-country drive. It’s comfortable, powerful and efficient.”

GM Performance Parts – tested to the limits, backed by GM

GM Performance Parts crate engines undergo a 50-hour, full-throttle engine dynamometer validation that requires the engines perform from peak horsepower to peak torque. GMPP also installs crate engines in its own engineering vehicles for testing and continuous improvement. That commitment to quality and durability enables General Motors to back GM Performance Parts crate engines with a 24-month/50,000-mile warranty (whichever occurs first). All GM Performance Parts components carry a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty.

Enthusiasts who crave the latest technology, maximum horsepower and the expertise and confidence backed by GM, can purchase GMPP crate engines, blocks, heads, high-performance transmissions and components from GMPP Authorized Center dealers or any other GM dealership nationwide.

bmw m gmbh now offers a truly outstanding performer based on the bmw m3 coupé also ideal for clubsport events – exactly the right car for the truly discerning customer demanding the very utmost in terms of power and performance. The bmw m3 gts is largely hand-built by the most skilled craftsmen at bmw m gmbh as a perfectly harmonised package of outstanding modifications, with production exclusively to the customer’s personal order. Focused on motorsport, the modifications comprise both the drivetrain, the suspension and the body of the car, as well as its interior. Market launch of the

bmw m3 gts will be in spring 2010.

Offering this truly exclusive model for the genuine motorsport enthusiast, bmw m gmbh is continuing a great tradition introduced on former generations of the bmw m3. Once again, the outstanding sports potential of the bmw m3 is being consistently enhanced and upgraded to an even higher level, the customer benefiting from the company’s wide range of know-how in the development and production of racing cars. Through its race-oriented modifications enhancing both performance and safety, the bmw m3 gts is ready to go in clubsport events on the track and comes with the option for homologation on the road. So that the driver is able to make his way to the race track in the very same car he will use for racing.

Consistent lightweight technology.

Consistent lightweight construction, adjustable aerodynamic units, an increase in engine size and output on the v8 high-speed power unit and suspension technology meeting all the requirements of motorsport – all this gives the bmw m3 gts a top position among high-performance cars built for clubsport racing. Unladen weight according to the din standard is less than 1,500 kg (3,300 lb), the lightweight body comes with special mounts for six-point seat belts and a rollcage fitted behind the b-pillar.

Through its design and construction, the materials used and its special equipment, the bmw m3 gts is a lightweight performer all the way, offering a genuine motorsport driving experience in every respect. In addition to the carbon fibre roof already featured as standard on the bmw m3, weight is consistently optimised by features such as silencers made of titanium, the extra-light centre console and door linings, the omission of rear seats, automatic air conditioning and an audio system, as well as sound insulation tailored specifically to this very special model.

V8 high-speed power unit: Derived from motorsport, optimised for motorsport.

The eight-cylinder power unit of the bmw m3 gts enlarged in size to 4.4 litres and boosted in output to some 450 hp boasts construction principles and technical details carried over directly from motorsport. A supreme surge of ongoing power throughout a wide range of engine speed characterises the outstanding performance of the v8 with its high-speed concept. The features typical of a motorsport engine include the crankcase made of a special aluminium-silicon alloy and constructed in bedplate design, individual throttle butterflies, anti-knock sensors with ion flow technology, and, wet sump oil supply optimised for supreme driving dynamics.

Seven-speed m dkg drivelogic with race-bred gearshift.

Power is transmitted in the bmw m3 gts by the m double-clutch gearbox with drivelogic also available as an option on the regular production model. This seven-speed m dkg drivelogic gearbox follows a principle also developed for motorsport, shifting gears without the slightest interruption of engine power. The transmission was developed specifically for a particularly powerful high-speed engine and offers ideal qualities for truly dynamic acceleration at all times. The gearshift characteristics on the seven-speed m dkg drivelogic have been tailored specifically to the modified power unit of the bmw m3 gts and the driver is able to shift gears both through the selector lever on the centre console and through special m shift paddles on the steering wheel.

High-performance suspension with purpose-built brakes.

To convey the supreme power of the engine to the road in equally supreme style even under the most extreme conditions, the bmw m3 gts comes with suspension technology likewise derived from the highest realms of motorsport. While the suspension is based on the front and rear axle of the bmw m3 coupé, the rear axle subframe is bolted firmly in position and the suspension features adjustment threads on the dampers for individual variation of the inbound and rebound strokes.

The high-performance brake system of the bmw m3 gts features fixed callipers with six pistons up front and four pistons on the rear wheels. The race-oriented set-up of dsc dynamic stability control naturally considers the supreme dynamic potential of the bmw m3 gts. Different-sized tyres front and rear running on 19-inch m light-alloy competition rims in double-spoke design ensure optimum transmission of acceleration and brake forces to the road.

Aerodynamics: Optimised components with variable geometry.

To optimise the flow of air and adjust the car’s downforce as required, the bmw m3 gts comes with a race-oriented front air dam and rear wing. This allows appropriate adjustment of the car’s aerodynamic qualities in motorsport and for other purposes, tailored to the specific profile of the respective track. The air guidance units on the front air dam, for example, may be varied in their geometry, just like the position of the rear wing based on the wing already featured on the bmw 320si raced in the wtcc world touring car championship.

Exterior features such as the bmw kidney grille and the gills at the side finished in chrome on the regular bmw m3 come in special dark eloxy-plated chrome on the bmw m3 gts.

Special interior for supreme performance and safety.

The interior of the bmw m3 gts clearly reflects the focus on supreme performance and safety on the race track. The interior features include classic bucket seats, interior trim in carbon and an m steering wheel finished in alcantara. The door and side panels at the rear also come in alcantara, while six-point seat belts delivered with the car for subsequent use, a fire extinguisher and preparation for an emergency-off switch in motorsport round off the wide range of special features inside the car.
At a glance, it’s clear the Silverado ZR2 concept wasn’t designed to haul flowers back from the nursery. With its widened body, tall stance and powerful LS supercharged engine, it is ready to hit the berms, dry washes and gullies of the Baja Peninsula.

The Silverado ZR2 is based on an extended cab/short box body. The custom bodywork includes carbon fiber fender flares that stretch outward to cover the 35-inch-tall Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires and widened stance. Much of the truck’s body is made of carbon fiber, including the front fenders, extractor-style hood, rocker extensions and tailgate, which features large, debossed CHEVROLET lettering as a nod to Chevy trucks of the past.

The pickup box, which is protected with a spray-on liner, features a unique locking storage system mounted to the extruded aluminum Cargo Management System rails from Chevy Accessories.

Many of the carbon fiber parts, including the hood, are clear-coated, rather than painted, to show off the intricate weave pattern of the high-tech, lightweight material. The parts that aren’t clear carbon fiber are painted Dune Metallic, a color that blends with the desert terrain. A large, more prominent grille is also part of the package and is a vision of what designers would like to see in a production or accessory part. It is very functional, feeding cool air to the 550-horsepower LS supercharged crate engine from GM Performance Parts.

The combination of 20-inch BBS RD wheels – reminiscent of historic Chevy truck wheel – and aggressive Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires connect to the chassis via BDS shocks and a four-inch lift kit to help negotiate those desert trails. The new front fascia dramatically improves approach angle and skid plates protect the chassis.

The interior features more carbon fiber details on the dash, along with black leather and suede-trimmed seats with contrasting stitching to those trail runs more comfortable.

“There’s more to this concept than meets the eye,” said Dewar. “Some of the components are being explored for possible inclusion in upcoming models.”
