I didn't even know there was a command like that, probably because I've never connected directly to internet, always via ethernet.

Looks like it is supported, but not officially by the kernel. Installation instructions on that site look pretty straightforward. I've never used a USB ADSL modem so can't comment on how well it performs

I'm not familiar with Knoppix but I'd go with the sources. You'll have to uncompress and compile it though.

I've not messed around with Knoppix much beyond rescuing systems with bad drives. I assume you've installed it to the hard drive and aren't just running the LiveCD? Once installed to the hard drive its a Debian install so if you grab the .deb download and follow the Debian install instructions that should work. Besides, Im pretty sure Knoppix doesn't have a compiler as standard so you'd have to install that first if you wanted to compile it from source.

In fact, the drivers are in the Debian package tree, but you'd need the testing or unstable version to get the drivers for your modem. IIRC the /etc/apt/sources.list defines what tree you use. Then you can use apt-get to install the drivers, then follow the instructions on the above site to set them up. It may sound more complicated than the install instructions on that site, but since all (well most) programs are handled through the package manager it may be as well to get comfortable with it now.

Good Luck

EDIT: The Knoppix forums or LinuxQuestions may be a better place to ask further questions

Hi, i have another VERY specific question. I have a .smil file that i want to convert to .mp3/.wma. opening in notepad gives very weird signs/letters/numbers. not readable at all. Many pages Is there a way to convert it, or what ? I have both the playlist-kinda file and the actual presentation. This is the code in the playlist .smil file, i cant figure out any link to a .rm file or anything else

Code:
<html>
<head>
	<title>Mail-A-Friend</title>
	<link href="http://i.realone.com/mailafriend/style/mail.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
	<script>
		function getLink(){
			var fullUrl = document.location.href;
			var linkUrl = fullUrl.replace(/^.*[\&\?]link=/,"");
			linkUrl = linkUrl.replace(/\&.*$/,"");
			return unescape( linkUrl );
		}
	</script>
</head>
<body>
<center>
<br class="v5" />
<div id="header">

Can't help you. Sorry.

But I have to say that I am very pleased with my new Pentium and another stick of 512MB RAM. It definitely speeds things up.

No, cuz I am ordering my new comp during my spring break The reason i kept changing is the prices were going down, so I was able to add more or better things.

The price will probably go down even more right before you start ordering, it's a PC ya know.

BTW I don't trust anything too new, but I think being 6600's successor, 7600 is pretty good, at least it doesn't have things too new like the 24 pipelines on the 7800 and 7900.

Still love 6800 cores, I decided to stay with it until a top-of-the-line 8-series comes out.

The 7600GT shares the same chipset as the 7800GT and 7800GTX
