Gran Turismo 5 cars getting dents

German technology website heise online is reporting that the next installment of Gran Turismo 5 will finally include cars that will display damages. The publication wrote that Kazunori Yamauchi, who heads up Polyphony Digital, developer of the Gran Turismo series, noted that hitting opponents or objects on the side of the street will have a visible impact on a car.

According to heise online, Gran Turismo Prologue will feature five tracks and 40 cars, which are rendered in high dynamic range with up top 200,000 polygons. The game will run in 1080p at 60 frames per second. The photo-realistic cars apparently will have slight imperfections on edges of cars, where pixels will be visible due to the high resolution of the game.

I think that was needed if Gran Turismo was to compete with Forza.

This picture looks very good, and it seems we'll have interesting cars.

I really didn't mind having no damage. No repair costs and ugly cars.

I really hope that they fix the two player mode and the bootleg rally sessions. The 5 second rule is totally uncalled for. There's no way that you can't have contact with anything whatsoever. And the two player mode sucks. They should allow you to use whatever setup you want without restricting you on tires. These two things truly messed up GT4, which would have made a pretty good game great if these two problems didn't pop up.

Yeah, the AI hitting you and giving you a 5 seconds penalty in rally mode was very frustrating, especially when doing the 200 A-spec point races...

GT5 looks very promising. I'm looking forward for other news.

Yup, for me, I had to do a whole bunch of wall riding to beat it. Not the way I would have wanted to do, but I had no choice. I did it all in a Skyline too.

I can't comment on the penalty, but the from the multiplayer demo at Leipzig Convention, the 6-player set up was reported as amazing. You could join in at any time, and the field of cars everyone chose was looking good. 1 member reported coming out of the pits in the F430, and seeing all kinds of demo cars running by.

But I think it should be appropiate that we recognize this as GT5:P. Not sure what GT5 holds in store 1 year from now.
