Do you have to earn the guns in single player before you can use them in multiplayer?

No you earn them through multiplayer. Once you reach 55 when you can choose to advance to the next level you will also lose all the guns, attachments, and perks you unlocked. It keeps the game interesting so you have something to keep striving for.

the only reason i ranked up was to unlock everything.. i'll keep all the guns and not have a special tag thing, kthx

I suck with a scoped weapon....

The one thing I hate about the MP though, M203/Nade spamming.....

i too am rubbish with a scoped weapon, but M203/nade spamming hasn't been an issue? mainly cos the M203 isn't that great in the hands of 90% of the users, but i haven't noticed the nade spamming as much.
..not that i'd know about random grenades...

whiteballz with a sniper rifle = scary good
he was spamming on bog with a mini-uzi, switched to the M21 and took out the entire opposing team in like less than 30 seconds
i seriously cannot use sniper rifles in this game

It's all about being in the right place at the right time.

For those guys that think they suck at sniping, when you hold your breath, wait till you hear the second heartbeat, then shoot at their chest/neck/head area. thats if you have time though, otherwise just send out five or so shots with the M21 in quick succession, that generrally works on a target running perpendicular to you.

i'll keep trying, it's just that the M16 combo i use now is effective enough most of the time, i have to develop a few other weapon loadouts

I've got a pretty wide spread weapon load out at the moment..

-M4, red dot, bandolier, doubletap, extreme conditioning
-Mini Uzi, silencer, M21 (using whatever perk it is where you carry two primary guns) and UAV jammer.
-M249, grip, RPG-7's, Doubletap, Deep impact
-M21, Claymores, bandolier, Iron lungs
-M40A3, claymores, sleight of hand, Iron lungs

I had a game yesterday when I sneak into the enemy MG nest with my "stealth" load out(P90+ Silencer, Bandolier, UAV Jammer, Dead Silence) and took out 8 guys without most of them realizing I was there....
