So uh, falcon...or mr. price guide, how much is a carbon fiber roof for a 1996 Civic Si?
In theory a lot more
because in theory (unless its a convertable) of you hack the roof off and bolt this carbon fibre pannel on youll loose a hell of a lot of the cars rigedness meaning iot would need some fairly major surgery to correct this.
I would much like to see a photo of this car.

Plus i love my Eclipse (97, 46,000 miles, $6500, can't beat it) and I don't want all the asthetic mods and customizations i'm putting into it to go to waste.

Anyway, back to the story: I have a friend with a highly tuned Civic SI (It runs around 13.5 at the track), complete with turbo, cold air injection, and all that junk. Anyway, some kid in a souped-up Neon was trying to get him to race him on the highway here. Of course, being "the best driver he knows", he has to do it. I get out of the car and sit and watch...his Civic completely smoked that Neon, but then ended up blowing a tire, rolling onto the roof, skidding on the concrete median (Yes, on the carbon fiber roof he just spent over a grand getting) and running into a traffic light post.

Fortunately he only broke his finger and got a couple stitches...but this just proves that street racing, whether you WIN or not, is the most idiotic waste of beautiful racing machinery and, more importantly, life...period.
Carbon roofs aside, well done on a sensible post. Live long and prosper.

Does type of car matter at street race? It's luck and guts. I've ended up a few cars ahead of an Evo 7 with my 150hp accord, does that make me better or "Ubelievable! 2.2 Accord pawned Evo 7 !!" ? nope... pure luck.

Bring em to tracks

I highly doubt that a 20th Edition Golf GTI would beat an RX8 235.
The VolksWagen Golf mk4 GTI on it's own was pretty slow, it's extrememly overweight. It is possible to have fun with them however, My Uncle loved his 20th AE all until that fateful day when he pushed it that little too hard and blew his engine blew up... The RX8 is much lighter (I think), and with it's extra power coupled to the fact that it'll easily outhandle a Golf leads me to believe that this man is a fool.

My uncle's Citroen Visa can do 300mph on its original 700cc engine.

I can't believe you people. The 20thAE is powered by none other than the twenty valve one point eight liter turbo engine. Of course it can beat some silly Mazda.

More power, more revs ( so off-setting the torque when used properly ) and most of all the RX-8 is REAR wheel drive so "should" always launch faster than any FWD.
But .... the RX-8s traction control is quite fierce and will defiantely bog down any attempt to do a fast launch. Doing on and off compairons on hillclimb circuit with all the aids on it was easily 5 seconds SLOWER !!! SO as said 3 years ago too many variables !!

HOw many cars have the 1.8T ?
How many FASTER/BETTER cars have something else ?

It's the CARS being discussed not just the engine. Sadly the GTi has everything in the wrong place

I'm always amazed by your brains. But this statement i have to disagree.

Under the SAME condition, SAME Engine, SAME Weight, a Front Engined FWD SHOULD launch faster than a Front Engined RWD.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. Because of weight transferred rearwards when accelerating rear tyres have more grip and therefore the car will accelerate faster.
