Bmw 2002

I did a search for a thread on this car and then checked in the European cars, but I failed to find one. Either there is none, or I didn't look hard enough. I suspect it to be the latter. Anyways, my apoligies if one exists, but I'll get to the point. My girlfriend is planning on buying a 1979 BMW 2002. The guy wants $2000 CAD. Is anyone here knowledgeable on this model that knows what to expect and what to watch out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Rob

Any info is good info

For a small 4cyl the AU-spec (non-emissionised) 2002s went like stink, over-steery but a delight to drive. Overheating was not uncommon here as the vehicles aged. Do these models have a repution for poor traction in snow?

not really relevant but i read somewhere that BMW are making a brand new 2002 - not a new model but an original made from new parts - to show that they are supporting classic car owners by providing new parts, or something

I was looking for BMW 2002 in the thread title, and the search button didn't give me that.

My old man had one a loooong time ago, when they were still being produced. He said it was fun to drive but pretty much the least reliable car he's ever owned (and that included the 50s Skoda Octavia).

He bought a bad one then. Because it's a universal oppinion, that those are almost bullet-proof.

Great cars and great looking. An aquaintance of mine fully restored one (a tii). I'll try to find a link to his site and update.

Here is alink to his site and his resto history. really cool guy, drives his 2002 all over as you can see by the site. He also has a nice 73 MGB.
